Gresham House plc Board

Anthony Townsend Chairman, Gresham House plc Board

Anthony has spent over 40 years working in the City and was chairman of the Association of Investment Companies from 2001 to 2003. He is currently Chairman of BMO Global Smaller Companies plc and Finsbury Growth & Income Trust plc and on the board for Baronsmead Second Venture Trust plc.

He was a director of Brit Insurance Holdings plc (1999-2008), representing it on the Council of Lloyd’s of London (2006 to 2008). Prior to this, he was managing director of Finsbury Asset Management Ltd (1988-1998). He was a non-executive director of Worldwide Healthcare Trust plc (1995-2013) and retired as a chairman of British & American Investment Trust plc on 31 Dec 2017.

Tony Dalwood Chief Executive Officer, Gresham House plc &
Investment Committee Chairman, LMS Capital plc

CEO Tony is an experienced investor with over 20 years in the industry and has advised numerous public and private equity businesses. In December 2014, Tony became CEO of Gresham House and brought in a new management team that has transformed the company from an investment trust into an AIM listed specialist asset management group.

Tony started his career at Phillips & Drew Fund Management (later UBS Global Asset Management), one of the UK’s most prominent value investment firms with £60 billion in assets at its peak. He was a member of the UK Equity Investment Committee with responsibility for managing over £1.5bn of UK equities. Tony holds an MA in Management Studies from the University of Cambridge.

Kevin Acton Finance Director

Kevin is the Finance Director for Gresham House plc and has over 17 years of finance and operational experience in private equity. Kevin joined Gresham House from Oaktree Capital Management where he was a senior vice president responsible for finance and operations in the European Principal team covering private equity and debt opportunity funds. Prior to joining Oaktree, Kevin was Director – Group Reporting and Valuations at 3i Group plc.

Kevin qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He also holds a BCom from the University of Edinburgh.

Rachel Beagles Non-Executive Director, Gresham House plc Board

Rachel joined as Non-Executive Director in March 2018. Rachel is currently chairman of the Association of Investment Companies and Securities Trust of Scotland plc, and also senior independent director of both the Aberdeen New India Investment Trust plc and BlackRock Emerging Europe plc, where she also chairs the audit committee.

Previously, she was vice-chairman of Newlon Housing Trust and a non-executive director and audit committee chair of Crown Place VCT plc and Schroder UK Mid Cap Fund plc. Prior to this, Rachel was a managing director and co-head of the pan-European banks equity research and sales team at Deutsche Bank’s corporate and investment banking division, following a period as a director of Bankers Trust International.

Richard Chadwick Non-Executive Director, Gresham House plc Board

Richard is a chartered accountant who was appointed to the Board in June 2008 as a Non-Executive Director. Richard spent 27 years within the J Sainsbury plc group of companies, where he gained considerable experience of property development and financing, having been director of corporate finance and business development, and a non-executive director of the group’s property development company.

Simon Stilwell Non-Executive Director, Gresham House plc Board

Simon joined the Company as Non-Executive Director in December 2017. Simon has over 20 years’ experience in the City and was, until 2015, Chief Executive of Liberum, the investment bank that he co-founded in 2007.

Prior to Liberum, Simon was Head of Sales for Small Companies at Collins Stewart plc and was a Director at Beeson Gregory Limited. Simon is also the Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Audit committee, and CEO of Bonhill Group Plc, an AIM-listed digital media and events business.

Gareth Davis Non-Executive Director, Gresham House plc

Gareth joined as a non-executive director in October 2019, having previously served in our Advisory Group. Gareth’s executive career was spent at Imperial Brands, serving for 38 years. He became CEO in early 1996, leading the de-merger from Hanson plc later that year. During his tenure as CEO, Imperial grew to be one of the world’s largest tobacco businesses, posting huge shareholder returns.

On retirement in mid-2010, Harvard Business Review cited him as one of the World’s Top 50 CEOs in terms of value creation. He became Chairman of William Hill plc in Sept 2010, Wolseley (now Ferguson plc) in Jan 2011 and DS Smith in Feb 2012. He also advises SMEs. Gareth is a very experienced international businessman having developed businesses in all continents.

Rupert Robinson Managing Director,
Gresham House Asset Management Limited

Rupert is the Managing Director of Gresham House Asset Management Ltd and has 30 years’ experience in asset management and wealth management, focused on product innovation, investment management, business development, banking and wealth structuring. Rupert has a strong track record of delivering significant shareholder value. He was previously CEO and CIO of Schroders (UK) Private Bank and head of private clients at Rothschild Asset Management Limited.

Kevin Acton Finance Director

Kevin is the Finance Director for Gresham House plc and has over 17 years of finance and operational experience in private equity. Andy Hampshire Chief Operating Officer
& Chief Technology Officer

Andy is responsible for operational and technology initiatives across Gresham House. Andy has a strong technology, operations and business background, having previously worked for LDC and the wholesale division of Lloyds Banking Group, where he led numerous operational improvement and technology programmes.

Throughout his career Andy has advised companies on identifying value creation opportunities to support growth that can be driven through operational improvement and technology, as well as supporting complex post-merger integrations. Andy holds an MBA from the University of Warwick.

Samee Khan General Counsel
& Company Secretary

Samee is the General Counsel and Company Secretary of Gresham House plc and responsible for all Group legal matters. He has over 20 years’ legal, commercial and financial experience, covering private and public equity, M&A and corporate finance. Samee has a first-class honours degree in law and trained and qualified as a solicitor at Slaughter and May.

Samee joined Gresham House in 2019 from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), where he was responsible for building and leading the legal and compliance function for its Private Equities department. Prior to ADIA, Samee worked at SVG Capital plc alongside Tony Dalwood and Graham Bird.

Our team

Adam McLean Asset Manager, Forestry

Adam joined Gresham House in April 2019 as part of the Forestry asset management team. He assists with all aspects of operational management across several forest portfolios and has varied experience of large scale forest management and of timber harvesting and marketing.

After achieving a first class BA (Hons) in History from the University of Nottingham, Adam started his career with the Forestry Commission at Grizedale Forest, Cumbria, where he first developed an interest in forest management. He went on to gain an MSc in Forestry from the University of Aberdeen and has since worked for seven years in commercial forestry, mainly on the west coast of Scotland.

Alf Francis Investment Manager, New Energy

Alf has 15+ years’ experience advising directors, shareholders and stakeholders on corporate finance, restructuring and corporate turnaround matters. Previously with Grant Thornton UK LLP, Alf also has experience in international industry and spent time in the global restructuring team of a high street bank.

Alf has been involved in the construction, financing and operational management of over 100MW of onshore wind and solar assets on behalf of investors. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant and holds the Advanced Diploma in Corporate Finance qualification (CF) as well as a BSc (Hons) in Maths & Language Studies from UMIST.

Alison Wallace Assistant Office Manager

Alison has broad experience in forestry fund accounting, management and administration. Alison holds an HND in Accounting from the Abertay University. Her experience has largely been in the oil and maritime support services sector, during which time she has become a partially qualified ACCA.

Andy Gibb Director, Sales

Andy has over 17 years’ industry experience and joined Gresham House in October 2019 after spending two years at BNP Paribas. Prior to this he spent six years as investment sales director at BNY Mellon, focusing on family offices and the London discretionary market.

He has also worked in the business development team at Skandia Investment Management, helping launch the Spectrum range of funds. He holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Greenwich.

Anthony Crosbie Dawson Investment Manager

Anthony’s background is in investment banking, having previously worked for international firms in London, New York and South America, including Macquarie and Merrill Lynch. At Gresham House, he is responsible for business development, marketing and sales for our forestry and new energy assets, also managing one of the funds.

Anthony has a BA (Hons) in History from Newcastle University and is an Investment Management Certificate holder. He is also a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Beata Thacker Finance Assistant

Beata joined Gresham House as Finance Assistant in 2019. Prior to this, Beata worked in the finance department of a multi-site training company based near Milton Keynes. She is currently studying towards the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting.

Ben Guest Managing Director,
New Energy

Ben is the Managing Director of the Gresham House New Energy division and Lead Manager for the British Strategic Investment Fund (BSIF) strategy. He started his fund management career at Lazard Asset Management, before founding Hazel Capital (now Gresham House New Energy) in April 2007, subsequently serving as Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer.

With over 20 years of investment experience, Ben’s expertise spans the investment spectrum, across infrastructure, public equities and venture capital. He is responsible for the origination and execution of investment opportunities at Gresham House, alongside ongoing portfolio management. Ben currently serves as a director of over 40 companies and until recently was the non-executive chairman of Oxis Energy, a UK-advanced battery power company. He holds a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London.

Beth Delaney Senior Finance Manager

Beth is a Senior Finance Manager, looking after a number of our Forestry and Renewables clients.

Bevan Duncan Head of Portfolio

Bevan joined Gresham House in November 2018, having been at Livingbridge since 2006. Bevan has overall responsibility for all portfolio management activities for the Baronsmead VCTs. He also directly manages portfolio investments and has been an active board member of several Baronsmead investee companies including MLS, Eque2, Key Travel and Pho. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG in New Zealand, where he provided consultancy services to fast growing small businesses.

Bozkurt Aydinoglu Investment Director, New Energy

Bozkurt joined Hazel Capital (now Gresham House New Energy) in 2008 as a Partner and Portfolio Manager. He co-manages the Gresham House New Energy VCTs and sources and executes new opportunities, covering transaction negotiation, due diligence and contract negotiation. He dedicated the early part of his career to funding and advising companies in the telecommunications and technology industries, whilst in roles at Nomura, Salomon Brothers, Bowman Capital and Deloitte & Touche. In 2002 he co-founded and built New Energy Finance (NEF), which became the leading provider of data, research and analysis to investors in the global cleantech industry. NEF was acquired by Bloomberg in December 2009.

He has 25 years’ principal investment, advisory and business-building experience in the clean energy, telecommunications and technology industries, and holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London.

Brendan Gulston Investment Director, Equity Funds

Brendan joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge. He studied commerce with a focus on finance at Melbourne University and subsequently spent four and a half years in technology investment banking at Canaccord Genuity.

Cara Nuss Marketing Associate

Cara joined Gresham House in 2017 as Team Assistant, responsible for assisting the Operations and Housing & Infrastructure teams, before being promoted to Marketing Associate in 2018. Cara works alongside Lizzie Darbourne and James Gilbert to promote the Gresham House brand across all marketing activities.

Prior to joining Gresham House, Cara worked in recruitment whilst completing her BCompt Accounting Science degree at the University of South Africa

Cara Wareing Admin Team Assistant

Cara joined Gresham House in August 2019 as an Administration Assistant within the Oxford team. She predominantly assists the Senior Executive Administrators as well as providing organisation to the Oxford office. Prior to joining Gresham House, Cara worked for a packaging and brand design company as an Office Administrator.

Carole Harris Asset Manager, New Energy

Carole is responsible for the asset management of Gresham House’s renewable portfolio and also acts as fund manager for one of the wind funds. Carole joined Gresham House as part of the FIM Services Ltd integrations, and has been involved in the origination, financing, construction and management of all of the previously FIM-branded renewable assets.

Prior to joining FIM, Carole worked across a number of sectors including technology, software and travel as a Finance and Operations Director following qualification as a Chartered Management Accountant.

Cassandra Langley Administration Assistant

Cassandra is Administration Assistant within the Oxford Administration team providing support to the senior executive administrators and also deals with the day to day administration and organisation of the Oxford office. Prior to joining Gresham House, Cassandra worked for a construction design company as Office Manager.

Cate Morgan Team Personal Assistant

Cate is PA to the Quoted and Gresham House Venture teams. Prior to Gresham House, she worked in media and sustainable construction, and spent a year working in New York whilst completing her PGCert in International Business. She also holds a BA (Hons) in Conference and Exhibition Production Management from Leeds Beckett University.

Catriona Buckley Institutional Business Development Director

Catriona has over 15 years’ experience in institutional business development, and joined Gresham House from Fidelity International, where she was Investment Director in the Fixed Income team, working with global distribution channels to define and execute commercial strategy.

Prior to Fidelity, Catriona was Client Director at Pioneer Investments (now Amundi) where she managed a portfolio of institutional client, investment consultant and global strategic partner relationships. Before Pioneer, Catriona was a credit analyst in the Bond Management Unit at Allied Irish Banks plc where she was responsible for the fundamental analysis of credit securities purchased by the bank’s proprietary bond trading desk. She holds a BA (Mod) in Business & Economics from Trinity College Dublin.

Chloe Jacquet Asset Manager, New Energy

Chloe joined Gresham House in July 2019, having spent over three years in infrastructure operations at Oxford Capital. Prior to Oxford Capital, she was Acquisitions Manager at Inazin and a Project Officer at TRW, a ZF Group company. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Nottingham and an MBA from RAC, Cirencester.

David Leahy Investment Manager, Equity Funds

David joined Gresham House in November 2018 from Livingbridge. He studied Politics & Psychology at Cambridge, specialising in behavioural economics. From there, a passion for innovative businesses led him to joining Propercorn, a newly-minted FMCG start up.

After a year spent developing the commercial side of the business, focusing on establishing new distribution channels, he studied for an MSc in Management at Imperial College Business School and then worked at Puma Investments.

Dragos Smeu Finance Assistant

Dragos Smeu is a member of the Real Assets finance team in Gresham House’s Oxford office, assisting with a broad range of finance matters. He works on a variety of funds and clients, and this will continue to expand with the business.

Ed Simpson Investment Director, New Energy

Ed qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in 1998. He has been working with growth companies since 2000, as corporate finance adviser, COO / CFO, and investor. His focus on social impact and sustainable investing started in 2008 at Bridges Ventures and until 2018 he was head of the Energy and Infrastructure team at Downing LLP, with over £400m of assets under management.

Ed has experience in originating, negotiating and managing venture, growth and infrastructure transactions and actively managing a portfolio of investments through to profitable exit. He has led investments to build, own and operate renewable energy generating assets (AD, hydro, solar and wind) as well as other energy and infrastructure assets (including novel wood pellet production plants, behind the meter and grid connected batteries and reserve power plants). He holds an MA in Economics from Cambridge.

Edward Daniels Investment Director, Forestry

Edward oversees the provision of fund management services to Gresham House’s forestry funds and private clients, and manages one of the funds directly. Prior to joining Gresham House, Edward worked for Ludgate Investments advising the Ludgate Environmental Fund, an AIM listed closed-ended fund, on investing development capital in cleantech and environmental technology companies.

Previously he was at EY, providing buy-side due diligence and related transaction services to private equity clients in New York and London. Edward is a Chartered Accountant and is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority, and holds a BA (Hons) in Economics and Accounting from Newcastle University.

Edward Goldsworthy Investment Manager

Ed works on the origination, appraisal, execution and management of renewable energy investments. Prior to joining Gresham House, Ed worked with KPMG, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, before moving into commercial finance with Siemens L&A and then corporate finance with MacIntyre Hudson LLP, where he specialised in business start-ups and mid-market transactions.

Ed holds both a first class BSc in Economics from the University of Manchester and the Investment Management Certificate, and is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Edward Latter Investment Manager, Forestry

Ed is fund manager of one of our forestry funds. His role also involves the valuation and acquisition of new investment opportunities and overseeing deal flow. Ed has over 10 years’ experience in investment management and valuation.

Prior to joining FIM in 2012, Ed worked for Cluttons LLP where he dealt with commercial property portfolios for institutional and high net worth clients. Ed is a graduate of the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, and is currently enrolled in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme. He is a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer. Ed holds the Investment Management Certificate and is a registered advisor with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Emily Saunders Team Assistant

Emily joined Gresham House in early 2019 and is responsible for assisting the Operations, Technical, Distribution and Marketing teams. Prior to joining Gresham House, Emily spent 5 years in Hong Kong working in marketing, customer service and lifestyle management roles at Quintessentially and Bloom & Grow. Emily holds a BA (Hons) in Events Management from Leeds Beckett University.

Gareth Owen Investment Director, New Energy

Gareth was a Partner at Hazel Capital (now Gresham House New Energy) and has over 18 years’ experience executing structured transactions across a variety of sectors. He is primarily responsible for transacting investments, disposals as well as debt financings. Before Hazel Capital, Gareth worked at Barclays Natural Resource Investments, a captive private equity fund investing in the natural resource and renewable energy sectors.

Prior to this, he worked in the Structured Capital Markets divisions of Barclays Capital and Deutsche Bank, handling the acquisition and disposal of various asset-based companies. He started his career in infrastructure project finance at Greenwich NatWest and holds an MBA from Imperial College Business School, and both an MSc in Engineering Project Management and a BEng in Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester.

Gary Cresswell Financial Controller

Gary joined Gresham House in 2005 and is currently the Group Financial Controller,  providing support to the FD and providing accurate and timely financial information to assist in the smooth running of the Group.

Gary Smith Senior Finance Manager

Gary is responsible for the financial and accounting activities of our new Energy Storage Fund. Prior to joining Gresham House, Gary was a qualified accountant with a background in statutory accounts and external audit.

Gary has 10 years of experience working with a range of clients from charities and owner managed businesses to multinational group corporations. Gary is a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) and holds a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the University of Portsmouth.

Gemma Richards Senior Finance Manager

Gemma joined Gresham House in February 2019. She is the Finance Manager for FIM Forest Fund I LP, FIM Solar Distribution and Generation, and FIM Timberland LP. Prior to joining Gresham House she gained 20 years’ experience as a management accountant in a variety of industries, including renewable energy, during her time with Opus Energy Ltd. Gemma has a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from Cardiff University and is ACCA qualified.

Geoff Lambert Head of Compliance

Geoff joined Gresham House in August 2019, after spending 4 years at Nikko Asset Management. Prior to that he held compliance roles at Henderson Global Investors, Royal London and Barclays Wealth. He began his career in personal banking at HSBC.

Graham Bird Managing Director, Strategic Equity

Graham leads the Strategic Public Equity strategy alongside Tony Dalwood. He is experienced in fund management and in building both corporate advisory and asset management businesses. Prior to joining Gresham House in 2015, Graham spent six years as a senior executive at PayPoint Plc, most recently as director of strategic planning and corporate development.

He was also executive chairman and president of PayByPhone, a multi-national division of PayPoint operating out of Canada, the UK and France between 2010-2014. Graham began his career in audit and corporate finance at Deloitte and Cazenove, and holds an MA in Economics from the University of Cambridge.

Graham Carter Investment Director, Forestry

Graham is an experienced forestry professional, responsible for all operational aspects of the Gresham House forestry funds. After a short period of practical experience in the UK, Sweden and New Zealand, he joined UA Forestry Ltd (a division of United Auctions Group) as a forest manager, progressing to become their managing director in 1997.

In 2001, he left UA to found his own forestry management company, Aspen Forestry Ltd, which specialised in providing forest management services across Scotland. Following the successful sale of Aspen, Graham joined Gresham House in 2007. His specialism is in developing, negotiating and managing non-forestry ‘higher and better use’ investments on behalf of client funds, particularly renewable energy developments, telecom rentals, power line access and compensation and residential developments.

Hayden Morrison Harvesting Manager

Hayden is an Asset Manager within the forestry team. After graduating with a BSc in Forestry from Bangor University in 2014, he joined Gresham House as part of the timber harvesting team, where he specialised in operational control, a key contributor to fund performance.

His remit has since expanded to include wider asset management and acquisition work. Hayden achieved Chartered Forester status in December 2017.

Hazel Cameron Head of Portfolio Talent

With over 20 years in private equity, Hazel is an experienced investor, board director and has helped build numerous quality boards. Hazel qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen before spending a few years in corporate finance with British Linen Bank advising public and private companies.

She joined 3i in 1993 and in 2000 opened a London private equity office for Bowman Capital, a $6bn hedge fund with $750m for private equity. She invested throughout Europe before gaining operational experience by heading up the UK for Cross Atlantic Capital Partners. Since 2000, Hazel has been sitting on boards for private equity and independently and since 2006, she has been formally helping companies build quality boards and management teams.

Hazel joined Gresham House in March 2019. She continues to help create and maintain quality teams and is a Strategic Advisor to B&S Group.

Heather Fleming Head of Institutional Business

Heather joined Gresham House in June 2018 and is responsible for institutional business development, global consultant relations and client service. Prior to joining Gresham House, Heather spent seven years at Fidelity International, latterly as Head of Institutional Distribution for UK & Ireland.

Previously she held business development and client relationship positions at BankInvest, Capital International and Gartmore. Heather holds a BA (Hons) in Politics from Durham University as well as the Investment Management Certificate from the CFA Society of the UK.

Heather Hanson Senior Executive Administrator

Heather is responsible for the administration of several Gresham House and FIM Funds, is the Quality Manager for the Company’s ISO 9001 certification and is responsible for the administration of the Growing Timber and Public Liability Insurance Scheme. Heather has a level 3 NVQ Diploma in Business and Administration and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Henrietta Russell Asset Manager, Forestry

Henrietta is a Chartered Surveyor responsible for the asset management of Gresham House’s forestry portfolio with over 12 years’ experience in property management. Her role involves managing existing assets on behalf of clients. Prior to joining Gresham House, Henrietta managed rural estates and property in the UK along with a variety of professional work. Henrietta is a Member of RICS and a retired Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV), and holds a BSc (Hons) in Land Management from the University of Reading.

Henry Alty Investment Director, VCTs

Henry joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge since 2016. He focuses on growth capital investments in the technology and financial services sectors. Prior to Livingbridge, he worked at VCT fund manager Foresight Group for three and a half years, and at TMT focused strategy consultancy Spectrum for six years on projects in wireless communications, technology and media strategy. He has a first class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford and is a CFA charter holder.

Izzy (Richard) van Romunde Investment Analyst

Izzy covers acquisitions across a number of divisions. Prior to joining Gresham House, Izzy worked for over seven years in consulting and hedge funds, forming and executing strategy and managing high level projects. He is also the youngest visiting professor at the prestigious IEB University in Madrid, teaching the CFA curriculum.

Izzy is a CFA Charter holder and has a MSc in Finance from the University of Exeter. He speaks Spanish and Dutch fluently and is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Jacqueline Kelly Senior Finance Manager

Jacqueline is an accountant with over 20 years of experience across accounting, treasury, budgeting, management and administration. Having worked at FIM for 10 years prior to their acquisition, she is responsible for financial reporting, managing year-end audit processes, various tax and VAT matters for the division and also a number of High Net Worth Individuals.

She provides support to the Divisional Financial Director, producing accurate and timely financial information to assist in the smooth running of the Group and its Clients. Before working in financial services, Jacqueline spent a number of years working for an ATM deployment firm, dealing with daily transactions in excess of £1m at the Bank of England.

James Armstrong Investment Analyst

James is an Investment Analyst with over 6 years’ experience across Forestry and Renewables, and providing asset management for the FIM Forest Fund I LP. James is a Level II candidate in the CFA programme and holds the Investment Management Certificate and a BA in Business Administration.

Previously, James worked for J.P Morgan in equities and fixed income operations before moving into commodity derivatives at RWE. Prior to joining FIM and Gresham House, he was on the dealing desk of Computershare Investor Services, trading global equities for corporate share and compensation schemes.

James joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge. Prior to that he worked in TMT audit at EY for 3 years where he qualified as a chartered accountant. James studied at Durham University where he obtained a first class masters degree in mathematics.

James Gilbert Marketing Manager

James joined in May 2019 and works alongside Lizzie Darbourne and Cara Nuss covering group and product marketing to communicate with shareholders, investors and clients, raise brand awareness, and produce high quality marketing materials and messaging.

Prior to Gresham House, James headed up communications and marketing for Lloyd’s of London syndicate Neon Underwriting and spent time in the marketing teams at data management fintech, Asset Control and retail currency provider, ICE – International Currency Exchange. James is a copywriting and design specialist with a BA (Hons) in Journalism and an MA in Communication and International Marketing from the University of Surrey.

James Hendry Investment Manager

James joined Gresham House as an Investment Manager in December 2019. Prior to this he spent five years at PwC, latterly working in the financial due diligence team.

James is a Chartered Accountant and read Economics and Accounting at Edinburgh University.

Jason Sinden Investment Director, Forestry

Based out of Gresham House’s Dumfries office, Jason is responsible for the effective management of the forestry portfolio on behalf of clients together with continued expansion. Jason is a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer, Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters, MBA graduate, IMD Alumni and Aberdeen University forestry graduate with key experiences including forestry investment appraisal and due diligence. Jason has a long background in forestry, timber processing and woodland creation and specialises in forestry investment.

Jessica England Middle Office Manager

Jessica joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge for 5 years. Based in the London office she works as the Middle Office Manager for the Baronsmead VCTs and Gresham House Equity Funds. Jessica is a qualified management accountant and holds a BA (Hons) in Business Management from the University of Lincoln.

Jessica Morales Executive Assistant

Jessica is Executive Assistant to the Management team at Gresham House. Jessica joined from the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group where she previously worked as team personal assistant to the investment team.

Jeston Na Nakhorn Chief of Staff

Jeston joined Gresham House in September 2019, having spent two and a half years as an independent management consultant. Prior to this, he spent time as COO of Vauban Group and 4 years at Sainsbury’s in profit protection and major store management. Jeston spent his early career as an officer in the British Army for 16 years and holds a BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Bristol.

Joe Thomas Investment Manager

Joe is an Investment Manager in the New Energy team, focused primarily on sourcing and executing new investments for the British Strategic Investment Fund. Prior to joining Gresham House, Joe worked for Lloyds Banking Group in their structured finance team, supporting primarily UK companies with the structuring and execution of secured capital markets transactions.

Whilst at Lloyds, he also gained experience in restructuring and private equity. Joe holds a BA (Hons) and MA from Durham University and is a CFA charter holder.

John O’Toole Technical Director

John joined Gresham House New Energy (formerly Hazel Capital) in 2016 as Technical Director. He has over 15 years’ energy industry experience across operations, management and optimisation of energy generation assets.

He is responsible for the optimisation of existing solar and wind assets, technical development and optimisation of new energy storage opportunities. Prior to Hazel Capital, John worked in the UK solar sector, initiating O&M and asset management for a number of ground-mounted solar PV asset portfolios. This was on behalf of private equity, yieldco and EPC organisations, with total generation capacity over 600 MW. Prior to this, at RWE/Npower, he managed the operational control, trading and grid-interface of a UK wind portfolio with over 1 GW generation capacity.

Before moving to London in 2011, John worked with the Irish utility ESB, in management roles in a 400 MW CCGT plant, and in trading/commercial optimisation of CCGT assets in the UK and Irish markets. He started his Career in Dublin with Fingleton White consulting engineers. John holds a BE in Mechanical Engineering from University College Dublin, an MSc in Management from Dublin City University and an MBA from the Open University.

Josh Phillips Investment Analyst

Josh joined Gresham House in 2019. He previously worked at Hazelwoods, a regional firm of accountants as a Corporate Finance Executive. He obtained a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Business from the University of Reading in 2017, during which he interned at PwC.

Julie McCarthy Senior Executive Administrator

Julie is a senior executive administrator to the direct acquisitions fund manager, and also deals with the day to day administration of two of the Limited Partnerships. Prior to joining Gresham House, Julie worked for the credit management arm of the Royal Bank of Scotland. She started at FIM October 2013 and holds a Btech in Business and Finance.

Karen Napier Office Manager

Fund accounting, treasury, management and administration. Karen is an experienced accountant and has worked with Graham Carter for many years, first at UA Forestry, then at Aspen, and finally joining Gresham House Forestry in 2007.

Karen Tolputt Finance Assistant

Karen joined Gresham House in April 2019 and works as a Finance Assistant supporting the Finance Managers in our Oxford office.  Prior to this, Karen spent 11 years working in the finance department at CAE Oxford Aviation Academy.

Ken Wotton Managing Director, Public Equity

Ken is Managing Director, Public Equity, and leads the investment team managing public equity investments. He is lead manager for LF Gresham House UK Micro Cap Fund, LF Gresham House UK Multi Cap Income Fund and manages AIM listed portfolios on behalf of the Baronsmead VCTs. Ken graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford, before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG. He was an equity research analyst with Commerzbank and then Evolution Securities prior to spending the past 12 years as a Fund Manager at Livingbridge and now Gresham House specialising in smaller companies.

Kevin Acton Finance Director

Kevin is the Finance Director for Gresham House plc and has over 17 years of finance and operational experience in private equity. Kevin joined Gresham House from Oaktree Capital Management where he was a senior vice president responsible for finance and operations in the European Principal team covering private equity and debt opportunity funds. Prior to joining Oaktree, Kevin was Director – Group Reporting and Valuations at 3i Group plc.

Kevin qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He also holds a BCom from the University of Edinburgh.

Krystyna Slota Senior Finance Manager

Krystyna is a Finance Manager and is responsible for preparing accounts, and day to day finance matters for FIM Forest Fund I LP and a portfolio of renewable energy entities. She also manages the year-end audit process and VAT matters. Krystyna joined FIM Services Ltd in October 2015 as a Finance Assistant and soon progressed to Finance Manager. She has an HND in Business Management and is ACCA part-qualified.

Laurence Hulse Investment Manager

Laurence works alongside Graham Bird in the Strategic Equity team, working on both public and private equity transactions across a range of sectors for Gresham House Strategic. He also supports fundraising and investment activities for our Real Assets division.

Laurence has a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics with Economics from the University of Warwick. During his studies, Laurence interned at Rothschild & Co, working on the Mergers and Acquisitions Team in the Industrials sector, and at Barclays Capital on the Equities trading floor

Liz Henderson Legal & Compliance Analyst

Liz joined Gresham House in August 2019 and is a member of the Legal & Compliance team, responsible for commercial contracts, data protection and aspects of compliance and corporate governance.

Prior to Gresham House, Liz worked at Montagu Private Equity, London and the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority in Melbourne where she was Legal Counsel. Liz qualified as a lawyer in Australia and has broad legal experience.

Lizet Nooren Finance Manager,
New Energy

Lizet joined Gresham House New Energy (formerly Hazel Capital) in early 2013 as Finance Manager and is responsible for financial reporting for all the renewable energy SPV entities. Additionally, she manages the year-end audit process and all tax and VAT matters.

Lizet has more than twelve years of accounting experience in both internal and external audit. She previously worked for six years in the French office of CNA, the leading European specialist commercial insurer. She began her career with EY, spending four years working in the Dutch and Belgian offices. She studied for a BSc in Accounting at Nyenrode University in the Netherlands and holds a BBA in Economics from Avans Hogeschool Breda.

Lizzie Darbourne Marketing Director

Lizzie became Marketing Director in April 2018, having previously held the role within the Gresham House New Energy division (formerly Hazel Capital) having joined the business in 2011. She oversees all marketing and reporting activity across the Group to communicate effectively with shareholders, investors and clients, to raise brand awareness and to set and maintain high standards for the quality of marketing materials and messaging.

Whilst at Hazel Capital, Lizzie managed all aspects of the firm’s product offering, which includes VCTs, EIS investments and direct private placements into a portfolio of renewable energy project companies. Lizzie worked at Matrix Group between 2008-2011 in marketing and later UK and global sales within their funds team. Between 2003 and 2008, Lizzie was a member of the British Sailing Team and was runner-up in the trials for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. She competed in the Laser Radial class, which is the women’s single-handed discipline. Lizzie holds a BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Oxford, as well as the IMC.

Louise Richards HR Director

Louise joined Gresham House in March 2019 as HR Director. She is responsible for partnering with the management team in the development of the HR platform and the strategic HR focus of Gresham House, in addition to providing generalist HR support.

Previously Louise has HR experience working across financial institutions, including HSBC and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as well as establishing a HR consultancy focusing on developing people solutions for organisations. Louise holds a BSc in Business Studies and Social Policy from the University of Roehampton and is an accredited member of the CIPD.

Mackenzie Travers Investment Associate

Mackenzie joined Gresham House in December 2019 having previously spent a year in Technology M&A Advisory at BDO LLP, where he worked on a variety of buy-side and sell-side mandates for owner-managed businesses across the UK. Prior to joining the Technology M&A Advisory team he worked in the Business Services team in BDO for two years, where he supported fast growth businesses in meeting their compliance and reporting requirements.

Before joining BDO, he spent over a year at Inflexion Private Equity where he focused on sourcing and researching investment opportunities, where his interest for investing was sparked.

Mandy Parr Personal Assistant & Office Manager

Mandy manages the day-to-day infrastructure and schedules of the Gresham House New Energy team, as well as assisting the finance and the marketing teams. Prior to joining Gresham House, Mandy worked as an Office Manager and Accounting Clerk & Secretary for 8 years at an accountancy firm in South Africa. She has diplomas in both Interior Decorating & Architectural Drawing and Accounting & Finance, as well as Company Secretarial knowledge.

Masrur Rahman Finance Executive, Equity Funds

Masrur joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge where he worked across the VCT and Equity Funds’. Prior to that, he spent 2 years in ecommerce and trading at Dixons Carphone and 6 months as a trainee accountant with HT Accountants. He holds a first class BSc in Accounting from the University of Westminster.

Matthew Giles Investment Director, Forestry

Matthew is focused on forestry investments, with a single client portfolio of circa 14,000 ha of commercial forestry. Prior to Gresham House, he worked as a forest manager for 12 years, based in Scotland, responsible for extensive areas in South Wales, the north of England, and Scotland. Duties included client liaison, budgets, timber sales, woodland purchases, restocking, road building and grant applications.

His previous experience included the responsibility for FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) audits on all the forest areas previously managed. Matthew is a qualified chartered forester and graduated holds an honours degree in Forestry from the University of Central Lancashire, following practical experience in the UK and in Australia.

Matthew Green Investment Manager, Forestry

Matt is a chartered surveyor with over 13 years’ experience in investment management. He is responsible for the asset management of FIM’s forestry portfolio and for family office and high net worth individuals’ forestry and renewable portfolios worth over £360m. Matt is also responsible for the valuation and acquisition of investment opportunities.

Prior to Gresham House and FIM, Matt worked for Smiths Gore as a rural estate manager, advising a number of private clients on the management of their diverse property portfolios. Before this, he worked for Jones Lang LaSalle in their financial services team advising on the formation of joint venture property development companies. Matt holds the Certificate in Investments and is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Maya Ward Investment Manager, Gresham House Ventures

Maya joined Gresham House in September 2019, having spent 4 years at Octopus Investments, investing in real estate-backed healthcare companies and entrepreneurs. Prior to that she worked at KPMG for 7 years in audit and corporate finance. She has a first class degree in Modern History from Oxford and is a Chartered Accountant.

Megan Jones Office Assistant

Megan joins as Office Assistant, she will be working alongside the PA team in the day to day running of the London office. Prior to Gresham House, Megan held an administrative role in Salomons Estate. She also recently returned from travelling in Australia & New Zealand. Megan holds first class BA(Hons) in International Childhood Studies from the University of Leeds.

Mike Woolley Head of Wholesale
Retail Funds

Mike looks after wholesale retail, establishing and maintaining relationships across the UK wholesale markets to support our equity funds offering. Before joining Gresham House in September 2019, Mike was Head of External Distribution for the UK at BNP Paribas Asset Management, where he was responsible for developing the company’s distribution business, with a focus on the UK wealth management and discretionary asset management sectors.

He has 20 years’ experience of distribution in the UK, having previously been Head of UK Sales at EFG Asset Management, prior to which he held sales roles at Neptune Investment Management, Prudential and Standard Life.

Nick Sachs Fund Accountant,

Nick joined Gresham House in July 2019 and works as the Fund Accountant for the VCTs and Equity Funds. Prior to this he qualified as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG and worked as an outsourced Accounting Supervisor at BDO LLP for 2 years. Nick also obtained an Accounting (Hons) degree at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.

Olly Hughes Managing Director,
Forestry

Olly joined Gresham House in February 2019 as Managing Director of Forestry. Olly is responsible for all facets of the Gresham House forestry business and additionally oversees the deployment and asset management of the wider real asset investment portfolio, including all solar PV and wind assets.

Olly has over 20 years’ experience in the finance sector beginning his career with Baring Brothers and then ING Barings, more recently he was a Partner and Head of Infrastructure at Oxford Capital. Olly is a specialist real asset investment manager with a background in developing, structuring and managing a wide array of financial and infrastructure asset backed portfolios. He has a BA and MA from Oxford University and also holds the Investment Management Certificate from the CFA Society in the UK.

Rebecca Pimm Fund Controller

Rebecca joined Gresham House in October 2019, and is based in the London office working as a Fund Controller for the Baronsmead VCTs. Prior to joining the firm, Rebecca worked as a Fund Accountant and Project Manager at Livingbridge. Rebecca qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Brisbane, Australia, where she worked for KPMG for several years before moving to London in 2017.

Richard Crosbie Dawson Founder of FIM

Richard is a Chartered Surveyor whose experience covers all property issues. His expertise includes: complex documentation and due diligence matters, developing and implementing investment schemes – particularly those based on tax-efficient structures – and managing a wide range of investor contacts established through FIM’s investment business. Richard is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Richard Staveley Managing Director, Strategic Public Equity

Richard works alongside Graham Bird in our Strategic Public Equity team. He entered fund management 20 years ago and is a Chartered Accountant. After initially starting at a hedge fund, he moved to Société Générale Asset Management where he was made Head of UK Small Companies after becoming a CFA charter holder in 2002.

Richard then became a Founding Partner of River and Mercantile Asset Management in 2006, responsible for the top quartile performing UK Small company and UK Income Funds and helping grow the business to over £2bn AUM. In 2013 he joined Majedie Asset Management to initially co-manage and then solely run the small companies investments within the flagship UK Equity Service. These investments peaked at over £900m, while overall firm AUM doubled to £15bn during his tenure.

Rob Carlow Investment Director, Forestry

Rob started out working in London for five years with CNBC Europe. Working within the financial sector led to an interest in investment analysis and financial modelling. Graduating with a distinction from his Applied Carbon Management MSc at Glasgow University, Rob set up a consultancy focusing on carbon management in forestry and the potential to realise value within this emerging sector. This led to working for Gresham House, working alongside Digby Guy on acquisitions and business development.

Roslyn O’Brien Team Assistant,

Roslyn joined Gresham House in 2019 and is assistant to the Fund Directors. Roslyn joined from Evercore where she worked as a PA within the Private Funds Group. Prior to Evercore, Roslyn was PA to the Investor Relations team at Europa Capital, a European Real Estate Investment Manager.

Rupert Robinson Managing Director,

Rupert is the Managing Director of Gresham House Asset Management Ltd and has 30 years’ experience in asset management and wealth management, focused on product innovation, investment management, business development, banking and wealth structuring. Rupert has a strong track record of delivering significant shareholder value. He was previously CEO and CIO of Schroders (UK) Private Bank and head of private clients at Rothschild Asset Management Limited.

Samee Khan General Counsel
& Company Secretary

Samee is the General Counsel and Company Secretary of Gresham House plc and responsible for all Group legal matters. He has over 20 years’ legal, commercial and financial experience, covering private and public equity, M&A and corporate finance. Samee has a first-class honours degree in law and trained and qualified as a solicitor at Slaughter and May.

Samee joined Gresham House in 2019 from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), where he was responsible for building and leading the legal and compliance function for its Private Equities department. Prior to ADIA, Samee worked at SVG Capital plc alongside Tony Dalwood and Graham Bird.

Samia Lone Head of Legal

Samia joined Gresham House in September 2019 from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. She has over 13 years’ experience in asset management and in private equity fund formations and transactions. Her role at Gresham House focuses on fund formation and structuring, working alongside the sales and distribution team, and working on existing funds and mandates across the business. Samia is a qualified lawyer and holds an LLB (Hons) in English & French Law from the University of East Anglia.

Saveen Kumar Financial Planning & Analysis Manager

Saveen has more than 10 years of experience spread over finance and technology. He works with the Finance team on developing forecasting, assisting in modelling acquisitions and providing commercial and technical accounting expertise across the Group reporting function.

Prior to joining Gresham House, Saveen was with PwC UK, where he gained extensive experience in financial due diligence, financial modelling and financial review. He holds an MBA from the University of Oxford and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA).

Simon Amor Investment Forester

Simon is a Chartered Forester with over ten years of private and public sector experience. He has a BSc in Forestry from Bangor University, graduating in 2008. He specialises in woodland creation and general forest management.

Stephen Beck Divisional Finance Director

Stephen joined Gresham House in May 2018 upon FIM Services Limited’s acquisition, where he had served as Chief Financial Officer and Compliance Officer since 2013. Stephen is a law graduate and barrister and was called to the Bar in 1996. He subsequently joined PwC and trained as a Chartered Accountant with a particular emphasis on corporate tax issues. After PwC, he worked for Williams Holding plc before its demerger.

Stephen then joined E.ON, where he worked in a variety of financial and commercial roles, ranging from leading large finance teams, developing power station projects, M&A transactions and working with HM Government delivering low carbon solutions. His last role at E.ON was the sale of Horizon Nuclear Power to Hitachi. Stephen is also a non-executive director and audit committee chair for the NHS Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group. He is a Financial Conduct Authority registered adviser.

Stephen Ramage Timber Marketing Manager

Stephen specialises in all aspects of marketing, harvesting, and extraction of client timber. A professional forester, working on clients’ behalf with sawmills and other end-users as well as responsibility for crop mensuration and appraisal, prior to harvesting decision.

After gaining experience in timber harvesting as a self-employed chainsaw operator he joined Smiths Gore as an assistant forest manager, where he developed his forestry management skills, qualified as a professional tree inspector and began working towards Chartered Forester status, which was successfully achieved in 2010.

Steve Cordiner Head of Unquoted Investment

Steve joined Gresham House in November 2018 after the Livingbridge acquisition. Steve leads the unquoted investment team on behalf of the Baronsmead VCTs. Steve is a qualified Chartered Accountant and prior to moving into Private Equity he advised Corporate and Private Equity clients on a range of corporate finance and due diligence matters on transactions up to £2bn in value at KPMG.

Steve has a depth of experience in sectors including TMT, Leisure, Consumer and Business Services. Notable investments include Carousel Logistics, Moteefe,  Boilerjuice, Happy Days Nurseries and Symphony Ventures.

Stevie Ingamells Investment Manager

Stevie joined Gresham House in January 2018 and works on both public and private transactions across the full range of funds, spending the majority of time working on the British Strategic Investment Fund.

Prior to Gresham House, Stevie worked for Lloyds Banking Group in their Leveraged Finance Team, following the completion of the graduate scheme where she gained exposure to a wide range of Capital Market products. Stevie holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from Durham University and has passed CFA Level II.

Suzy Babbage Asset Manager

Based in our Oxford office, Suzy works in the asset management team for our renewables portfolio. Suzy has been involved in the construction, financing and operational management of over 100 MW of onshore wind and solar assets on behalf of investors.

Previously, Suzy worked as a Senior Investment Analyst for Sun Life Financial of Canada and Lincoln Financial Group. Suzy is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has a first class BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Bath.

Tania Hayes Divisional Finance Director

Tania joined Gresham House in November 2018 having been at Livingbridge for 13 years. She has worked on the Baronsmead VCTs since she joined, progressing from administration assistant to Finance Manager in 2011 and qualifying as a Chartered Management Accountant in 2012 while at Livingbridge.

Tania previously worked at a Chartered Accountancy practice in New Zealand for eight years where she began her accounting training. She holds a BBS in Accounting from the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand.

Thomas Ducker Institutional Sales Manager

Tom joined Gresham in November 2018 as Institutional Sales Manager. In this role he is responsible for institutional business development, global consultant relations and front office client service. Prior to this, he spent four years at M&G Investments, initially in a Sales Support capacity as part of the Fixed Income Institutional team and latterly as Client Relationship Manager, looking after discretionary clients in the northern regions.

Previously, he held a position at a global management and strategy consulting firm and has experience in logistics and supply chain, corporate strategy and due diligence, and omnichannel retail strategy. Tom holds the Investment Management Certificate and graduated from the University of Bristol with a BA (Hons) in Philosophy. He is also a fluent Spanish speaker.

Tom Astor Investment Analyst

Prior to joining Gresham House, Tom worked for Polar Capital for 5 years on both the investment and operational side, during which time he completed the IMC. Following a sustainability direction, he designed and built a rural indoor farm, selling the produce to local restaurants and farmers markets. He graduated in 2010 from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc (Hons) in Scientific Geography.

Prior to that he was at KPMG for 6 years, working across a number of departments with a focus on private equity transactions. CEO Tony is an experienced investor with over 20 years in the industry and has advised numerous public and private equity businesses. In December 2014, Tony became CEO of Gresham House and brought in a new management team that has transformed the company from an investment trust into an AIM listed specialist asset management group.

Tony started his career at Phillips & Drew Fund Management (later UBS Global Asset Management), one of the UK’s most prominent value investment firms with £60 billion in assets at its peak. He was a member of the UK Equity Investment Committee with responsibility for managing over £1.5bn of UK equities. Tony holds an MA in Management Studies from the University of Cambridge.

Trevor Blackburn Investment Director, Forestry

Fund Manager; responsible for management of in-forest operations and fund reporting. Post qualification, he worked as a forest manager on the full spectrum of forest activities, with a particular emphasis on adding value through bare land planting. In 2004, he moved to the Forestry Commission where he held various responsibilities including regulatory compliance role over the industry’s private sector. Latterly he was project manager of an IT project, and represented the Forestry Commission on the SEARS (Scotland’s Environmental & Rural Services) programme of organisational change. In 2012 he joined Gresham House Forestry and is one of the teams qualified chartered foresters.

Victoria Larkin Executive Administration Manager

Victoria is a Executive Administration Manager responsible for several FIM and Gresham House Funds. She is the lead on the development of the Group database and other IT projects. She joined FIM in November 2004.

Wayne Cranstone Investment Director

Wayne has 24 years of technical, commercial, stakeholder and general management experience in the energy sector. Before joining FIM Services Ltd, where he served as COO prior to their acquisition, Wayne was Onshore Wind Development and Construction Director for RWE Innogy.

Wayne is a Chartered Engineer and has a PhD in Engineering from the University of Sheffield. He has overseen the construction of 17 wind farms (~400MW) and the sale of 12 wind farms (~200MW) over the past 12 years. He has also represented the industry on aviation matters as a director and vice chair of the Aviation Investment Fund Company Ltd. Wayne is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.
