Gresham House plc Board

Anthony Townsend Chairman, Gresham House plc Board

Anthony Townsend has spent over 50 years working in the City and was Chairman of the Association of Investment Companies from 2001 to 2003. He is currently Chairman of Gresham House plc and Finsbury Growth & Income Trust plc.

He was a Director of Brit Insurance Holdings plc (1999-2008), representing it on the Council of Lloyd’s of London (2006 to 2008). Prior to this, he was Managing Director of Finsbury Asset Management Ltd (1988-1998). He was a Non-Executive Director of Worldwide Healthcare Trust plc (1995-2013) and retired as the Chairman of BMO Global Smaller Companies plc on 30 July 2020.

Investment Committee Chairman, Strategic Equity Capital plc

Tony has been Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gresham House plc since December 2014. He chairs the Investment Committees of Gresham House plc and Strategic Equity Capital plc. He led the management buy-in and established a new management team that transformed the firm from an investment trust into the listed specialist asset manager it is today with over £4bn AUM.

Tony has a long track record of investing and advising numerous public and private equity businesses. From 2002 to 2011, he established and grew SVG Investment Managers before being asked to lead SVG Advisors (formerly Schroder Ventures, London) as CEO. He started his career at Phillips & Drew Fund Management (later UBS Global Asset Management), one of the UK’s most prominent value investment firms with £60bn in assets under management at its peak and where he was a member of the Investment Committee. He was also previously Chair of the LPFA Investment Panel and Non-executive Board member.

Tony has over 25 years of investment experience and holds an MA in Management Studies from the University of Cambridge (where he was also a junior rugby international and Blue).

Kevin Acton Chief Financial Officer, Gresham House plc

Kevin is the Chief Financial Officer for Gresham House plc and has over 19 years of finance and operational experience in private equity. Kevin joined Gresham House from Oaktree Capital Management where he was a senior vice president responsible for finance and operations in the European Principal team covering private equity and debt opportunity funds. Prior to joining Oaktree, Kevin was Director – Group Reporting and Valuations at 3i Group plc.

Kevin qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He also holds a BCom from the University of Edinburgh.

Rachel Beagles Non-Executive Director, Gresham House plc Board

Rachel joined as Non-Executive Director in March 2018. Rachel is currently chairman of the Association of Investment Companies and Securities Trust of Scotland plc, and also senior independent director of both the Aberdeen New India Investment Trust plc and BlackRock Emerging Europe plc, where she also chairs the audit committee.

Previously, she was vice-chairman of Newlon Housing Trust and a non-executive director and audit committee chair of Crown Place VCT plc and Schroder UK Mid Cap Fund plc. Prior to this, Rachel was a managing director and co-head of the pan-European banks equity research and sales team at Deutsche Bank’s corporate and investment banking division, following a period as a director of Bankers Trust International.

Richard Chadwick Non-Executive Director, Gresham House plc Board

Richard is a chartered accountant who was appointed to the Board in June 2008 as a Non-Executive Director. Richard spent 27 years within the J Sainsbury plc group of companies, where he gained considerable experience of property development and financing, having been director of corporate finance and business development, and a non-executive director of the group’s property development company.

Simon Stilwell Non-Executive Director, Gresham House plc Board & Investment Committee Member, Gresham House plc

Simon joined the Company as Non-Executive Director in December 2017. Simon has over 20 years’ experience in the City and was, until 2015, Chief Executive of Liberum, the investment bank that he co-founded in 2007.

Prior to Liberum, Simon was Head of Sales for Small Companies at Collins Stewart plc and was a Director at Beeson Gregory Limited. Simon is also the Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Audit committee, and CEO of Bonhill Group Plc, an AIM-listed digital media and events business.

Gareth Davis Non-Executive Director, Gresham House plc

Gareth joined as a non-executive director in October 2019, having previously served in our Advisory Group. Gareth’s executive career was spent at Imperial Brands, serving for 38 years. He became CEO in early 1996, leading the de-merger from Hanson plc later that year. During his tenure as CEO, Imperial grew to be one of the world’s largest tobacco businesses, posting huge shareholder returns.

On retirement in mid-2010, Harvard Business Review cited him as one of the World’s Top 50 CEOs in terms of value creation. He became Chairman of William Hill plc in Sept 2010, Wolseley (now Ferguson plc) in Jan 2011 and DS Smith in Feb 2012. He also advises SMEs. Gareth is a very experienced international businessman having developed businesses in all continents.

Sarah Ing Alternate Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee Chair, Gresham House Plc

Sarah Ing will be appointed as a Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee Chair of the Company following the conclusion of the Company’s 2022 AGM. Richard Chadwick, has appointed Sarah as his alternate until the Company’s 2022 AGM, effective 15 September 2021. Richard will remain as Chair of the Company’s Audit Committee until he retires following the conclusion of the Company’s 2022 AGM.

Sarah is a qualified chartered accountant and brings to the Board over 30 years’ experience in financial services including audit, corporate finance, investment banking and asset management. During her executive career, she was a top-rated equity research analyst covering the UK general financial services sector and also founded and ran a hedge fund investment management business.

Sarah is Non-Executive Director at CMC Markets plc, the FTSE Small Cap UK-based global provider of online retail trading, where she chairs the Group Remuneration Committee and sits on the Audit, Risk and Nomination Committees. Sarah is also a Non-Executive Director of Marex Group plc and XPS Pensions Group plc. At Marex Group plc she sits on the Remuneration, Audit & Compliance, Risk, and Acquisitions & Disposal Committees. At XPS Pensions Group plc she sits on the Audit & Risk, Remuneration and Nomination Committees and also chairs the Sustainability Committee.

Rupert Robinson Managing Director,
Gresham House Asset Management Limited

Rupert Robinson has been the Managing Director of Gresham House Asset Management Ltd since September 2015. Before joining Gresham House, Rupert was CEO and CIO of Schroders (UK) Private Bank for 11 years and prior to that spent 17 years at Rothschild where he was latterly Head of Private Clients at Rothschild Asset Management. Rupert has a proven track record of delivering significant value to shareholders. He has over 31 years of experience in asset management, private banking and wealth management, focusing on product innovation, investment management, business development, banking and wealth structuring. He is a member of the Group Management and Investment Committees.

Andy Hampshire Chief Operating Officer
& Chief Technology Officer

Andy is responsible for operational and technology initiatives across Gresham House. Andy has a strong technology, operations and business background, having previously worked for LDC and the wholesale division of Lloyds Banking Group, where he led numerous operational improvement and technology programmes.

Throughout his career Andy has advised companies on identifying value creation opportunities to support growth that can be driven through operational improvement and technology, as well as supporting complex post-merger integrations. Andy holds an MBA from the University of Warwick.

Samee Khan Chief Legal Officer

Samee has been the Chief Legal Officer of Gresham House plc since April 2019. He is responsible for Gresham House Group legal matters. He joined Gresham House from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), where he was responsible for building and leading ADIA’s private equity legal and compliance team for five years. Prior to ADIA, Samee worked at SVG Capital plc alongside Tony Dalwood and Graham Bird. He has over 22 years of legal, commercial and financial experience, covering private and public equity, M&A and corporate finance. He also has a first-class honours degree in law and qualified as a solicitor at Slaughter and May.

Adam Khanbhai Investment Director

Adam joined in May 2020, following Gresham House’s mandate win of Strategic Equity Capital plc (SEC). He is a Fund Manager, working alongside Ken Wotton managing SEC. He has ten years of relevant financial experience, previously working for GVQIM as a Senior Analyst providing analysis and due diligence on existing and potential investee companies. Prior to this, he worked at OC&C Strategy Consultants for six years as a consultant working on commercial due diligence and strategy projects for corporate and private equity clients.

Adam was a Girdlers’ Scholar at the University of Cambridge and is a CFA charterholder.

Adam McLean Asset Manager, Forestry

Adam joined Gresham House in April 2019 as part of the Forestry asset management team. He assists with all aspects of operational management across several forest portfolios and has varied experience of large scale forest management and of timber harvesting and marketing.

After achieving a first class BA (Hons) in History from the University of Nottingham, Adam started his career with the Forestry Commission at Grizedale Forest, Cumbria, where he first developed an interest in forest management. He went on to gain an MSc in Forestry from the University of Aberdeen and has since worked for seven years in commercial forestry, mainly on the west coast of Scotland.

Alasdair Orledge Associate, Housing

Alasdair joined Gresham House in July 2021 as an Associate in the Debt Advisory team.

Prior to joining, Alasdair spent three and a half years in EY’s Audit department, where he worked with a range of FTSE 250 listed clients.

Alasdair is an ACA qualified chartered accountant and holds a first-class honours degree in Physics from the University of Bristol.

Alex Pilato Managing Director of the Housing and Capital Markets Divisions
& Investment Committee Member, ReSI plc

Alex is Managing Director and Head of the Housing and Capital Markets teams of Gresham House following the acquisition of TradeRisks in March 2020. He is also the Chief Executive of ReSI Capital Management and Executive Director of ReSI Homes Limited, the for-profit Registered Providers now managed by Gresham House. Alex was the founder and Chief Executive of TradeRisks Limited from 2000 to March 2020. Prior to TradeRisks, Alex worked for seven years at JP Morgan where he founded its risk advisory businesses, then HSBC leading the banks’ global risk advisory business, and Tokai Bank Europe as head of Capital Markets and Merchant Banking. Alex has 33 years of experience in the finance industry, with the last 20 years focusing on social housing.

He holds a first-class honours degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of London and a doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Oxford.

Alexandra Seeboruth Compliance Analyst

Alexandra Seeboruth joined Gresham House in January 2021 and is a member of the Compliance team.

Prior to that Alexandra held compliance roles at Bank of Montreal, BlueBay Asset Management, State Street Global Adviser and Toronto Dominion Bank.

Alexandra holds an LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of Buckingham and also studied with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Alison Wallace Assistant Office Manager

Alison has broad experience in forestry fund accounting, management and administration. Alison holds an HND in Accounting from the Abertay University. Her experience has largely been in the oil and maritime support services sector, during which time she has become a partially qualified ACCA.

Alistair Wardell Investment Director

Alistair is the Investment Director of the Housing team at Gresham House having joined the firm in January 2021. He has over 15 years of principal Real Assets investment experience, with a particular focus on the residential sector, including UK Build to Rent and US Multifamily.

Before joining Gresham House, Alistair worked at real estate private equity firm Henley Investment Management. He joined Henley following an attempted MBO of Atlas Residential’s UK business, where he led the Acquisitions team and was involved in over £250m of the earliest Build to Rent investments in the UK.

Alistair started his career as an Investment Banker with Macquarie Capital in London and holds an LLB (Hons) in Law from University College London.

Amber Stone-Brown Investment Manager

Amber joined as Investment Manager in July 2021.

Amber was previously at EY LLP UK FS in the Strategy and Transactions team between September 2013 and July 2021. She was also a Manager in the transactions diligence team specialising in banking capital markets, wealth and asset management, and insurance sectors.

She has seven years of experience across the transaction lifecycle, engaged on over 30 transactions (private and public) for a range of private equity and corporate clients and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2016.

Ana Janine Investment Manager, Sustainable Infrastructure

Ana Janine joined Gresham House in September 2021 as an Investment Manager in our Sustainable Infrastructure team.

Ana was previously at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where she worked on private equity deals across a range of sectors. Prior to this, her varied career included four years in the Portuguese political sphere as a member of the Coimbra Municipal Assembly, and time as a tax lawyer and consultant with Baker Tilly and Deloitte.

Ana is an HEC Paris MBA graduate with a degree in Law from Universidade de Coimbra.

Andy Gibb Director, Sales

Andy has over 20 years’ industry experience and joined Gresham House in October 2019 after spending two years at BNP Paribas. Prior to this he spent six years as investment sales director at BNY Mellon, focusing on family offices and the London discretionary market.

He has also worked in the business development team at Skandia Investment Management, helping launch the Spectrum range of funds. He holds a BA (Hons) in Economics, the CFA Certificate in Investment Management, the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing, the CII Certificate In Discretionary Investment Management and the CII Certificate in Investment Operations.

Anthony Crosbie Dawson Director, Forestry and Private Clients

Anthony’s background is in investment banking, having previously worked for international firms in London, New York and South America, including Macquarie and Merrill Lynch. At Gresham House, he is responsible for business development, marketing and sales for our forestry and new energy assets, also managing one of the funds.

Anthony has a BA (Hons) in History from Newcastle University and is an Investment Management Certificate holder. He is also a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Antoine Pesenti Head of Capital Markets & Analytics

Antoine Pesenti is Head of Capital Markets at Gresham House following the acquisition of TradeRisks in March 2020. Antoine spent 17 years at TradeRisks as a Senior Managing Director, where he was responsible for debt advisory and debt arrangement for bank facilities, private placements and listed bonds. During that time, Antoine also worked on missions for the World Bank to develop credit risk management models for several national treasuries. Prior to TradeRisks, Antoine worked on the development of Monte Carlo simulation short-rate models for risk management at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and was assistant professor of mathematics in Classe Préparatoire aux Grandes Ecoles in France. Antoine holds an MSc in Finance and Economics from the London School of Economics, an MPhil in Mathematics from ENS Paris-Saclay, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Sorbonne University, Paris.

Barney Harris Associate - Debt Advisory

Barney joined Gresham House in February 2021. He is an Associate – Debt Advisory. Previously, he was an Assistant Manager for Deloitte. He has 4 year’s finance experience. Barney is ACA qualifed and has a BSc (Hons) degree.

Beata Thacker Finance Assistant

Beata joined Gresham House as Finance Assistant in 2019. Prior to this, Beata worked in the finance department of a multi-site training company based near Milton Keynes. She is currently studying towards the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting.

Ben Fry Head of Housing Investments & Investment Committee Member, ReSI plc

Ben Fry is Head of Housing Investment at Gresham House and a director of the two Registered Providers of Social Housing it manages, ReSI Homes Limited and ReSI Housing Limited. He joined the firm in March 2020 following the acquisition of TradeRisks where he was Managing Director and Investment Manager for its fund management division ReSI Capital Management.

Ben has 15 years’ industry experience, with 9 years social housing experience since joining TradeRisks in 2011. Ben has led the investment management for fund Residential Secure Income plc since IPO in July 2017, prior to which he led TradeRisks’ debt advisory services for housing associations, local authorities, and specialist residential accommodation.

Ben qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He holds a BSc in Mathematics from Imperial College London.

Ben Guest Managing Director,
New Energy

Ben has been Managing Director and Head of the Gresham House New Energy division since November 2017.

He is also the Fund Manager of Gresham House Energy Storage Fund plc, with assets under management (AUM) of over £500m, and was, through 2020, also Fund Manager for the British Strategic Investment Fund (BSIF) Strategy which grew AUM to £350m under his leadership. Ben started his fund management career at Lazard Asset Management in 1994 and worked there for nine years. He later founded Hazel Capital in April 2007, serving as Managing Partner and CIO and which became Gresham House New Energy on the acquisition of Hazel Capital’s business activities in November 2017.

Prior to founding Hazel Capital, he was a co-founder of Cantillon Capital, where he managed a US$1bn equity hedge fund focused on global technology, media and telecom. Ben currently serves as a director of over 50, mostly project, companies. He has 27 years of investment experience and holds a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College.

Benoit Collin Investment Analyst, Forestry

Benoit joined Gresham House in February 2021 and is an Investment Analyst with a focus on commercial and carbon forestry investment appraisals in the UK and internationally. Prior to joining Gresham House, Benoit held analyst roles at Ardian, OFI Asset Management and HSBC.

Benoit holds a Master’s degree in Finance from ESSCA as well as a MSc in Investment and Wealth Management from Imperial College Business School. He is also fluent in French.

Beth Delaney Financial Controller, Real Assets

Beth is a Financial Controller, Real Assets, who looks after a number of our Forestry and Renewables clients.

Bevan Duncan Managing Director, Strategic Equity

Bevan joined Gresham House in November 2018, having been at Livingbridge since 2006. Bevan has overall responsibility for all portfolio management activities for the Baronsmead VCTs. He also directly manages portfolio investments and has been an active board member of several Baronsmead investee companies including MLS, Eque2, Key Travel and Pho. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG in New Zealand, where he provided consultancy services to fast growing small businesses.

Bob Henry Portfolio Director

Bob joined the original Mobeus VCTs team in 1998 and was one of the Partners who set up Mobeus when they completed a management buyout from the Matrix Group in 2012. Bob is focused on new deal generation but also looks after a number of portfolio companies, specialising in construction, food manufacturing and sports.

Bob was previously at HSBC where he was Head of HSBC Ventures and prior to that spent time at County Bank.

He holds a BA (Hons) in Business Studies from London Guildhall University.

Bozkurt Aydinoglu Investment Director, New Energy

Bozkurt joined Hazel Capital (now Gresham House New Energy) in 2008 as a Partner and Portfolio Manager. He co-manages the Gresham House New Energy VCTs and sources and executes new opportunities, covering transaction negotiation, due diligence and contract negotiation. He dedicated the early part of his career to funding and advising companies in the telecommunications and technology industries, whilst in roles at Nomura, Salomon Brothers, Bowman Capital and Deloitte & Touche. In 2002 he co-founded and built New Energy Finance (NEF), which became the leading provider of data, research and analysis to investors in the global cleantech industry. NEF was acquired by Bloomberg in December 2009.

He has 25 years’ principal investment, advisory and business-building experience in the clean energy, telecommunications and technology industries, and holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London.

Brendan Gulston Investment Director, Equity Funds

Brendan joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge. Brendan co-manages the LF Gresham House UK Micro Cap Fund and the LF Gresham House UK Multi Cap Income Fund and leads Gresham House’s Healthcare sector investment strategy. Prior to Livingbridge Brendan spent four and a half years in technology investment banking at Canaccord Genuity having studied commerce with a focus on finance at Melbourne University.

Cara Giesler Marketing Associate

Cara joined Gresham House in 2017 as Team Assistant, responsible for assisting the Operations and Housing & Infrastructure teams, before being promoted to Marketing Associate in 2018. Cara works alongside Lizzie Darbourne and James Gilbert to promote the Gresham House brand across all marketing activities.

Prior to joining Gresham House, Cara worked in recruitment whilst completing her BCompt Accounting Science degree at the University of South Africa

Cara Wareing Administration Assistant

Cara joined Gresham House in August 2019 as an Administration Assistant within the Oxford team. She predominantly assists the Senior Executive Administrators as well as providing organisation to the Oxford office. Prior to joining Gresham House, Cara worked for a packaging and brand design company as an Office Administrator.

Carole Harris Asset Manager, New Energy

Carole is responsible for the asset management of Gresham House’s renewable portfolio and also acts as fund manager for one of the wind funds. Carole joined Gresham House as part of the FIM Services Ltd integrations, and has been involved in the origination, financing, construction and management of all of the previously FIM-branded renewable assets.

Prior to joining FIM, Carole worked across a number of sectors including technology, software and travel as a Finance and Operations Director following qualification as a Chartered Management Accountant.

Cassandra Langley Team Administrator

Cassandra is Team Administrator within the Oxford Administration team providing support to the senior executive administrators and also deals with the day to day administration and organisation of the Oxford office. Prior to joining Gresham House, Cassandra worked for a construction design company as Office Manager.

Cassie Herlihy Investment Manager

Cassie joined Gresham House in July 2021 and is based in the London office working as an Investment Manager in the Public Equity team.

Prior to joining the firm, Cassie was part of the Corporate Broking team at Citi, having previously spent two and a half years at Investec.

Cassie graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2015, before completing an MSc at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Cate Morgan Team Personal Assistant

Cate is PA to the Quoted and Gresham House Venture teams. Prior to Gresham House, she worked in media and sustainable construction, and spent a year working in New York whilst completing her PGCert in International Business. She also holds a BA (Hons) in Conference and Exhibition Production Management from Leeds Beckett University.

Catherine Eldridge Team Assistant, VCTs

Catherine joined the Mobeus VCT team in January 2020 and supports the team on a wide range of projects. From managing the teams’ complex diaries, organising meetings and corporate events, through to office and facilities administration and investor relations assistance.

She previously worked in recruitment and resourcing, holding roles at Bain & Company, McCabe & Barton, Asquith Day Nurseries & Pre-schools, and Summit Search & Selection.

Catriona Buckley, CFA Institutional Business Development Director

Catriona is an Institutional Business Development Director who joined Gresham House in July 2019 from Fidelity International, where she was responsible for managing Fidelity’s relationships with investment consultants and direct institutional clients. Previously, Catriona was Client Director at Pioneer Investments (now Amundi) where she managed a portfolio of institutional clients, global strategic partner relationships and investment consultant relationships. Prior to that, Catriona was a credit analyst in the Bond Management Unit at Allied Irish Banks plc where she was responsible for the fundamental analysis of credit securities purchased by the bank’s proprietary bond trading desk. She has 15 years of experience in institutional business development, holds a B.A. in Business and Economics and is a CFA charterholder.

Charlie von Schmieder Investment Director, New Energy

Charlie is an Investment Director in the Gresham House New Energy team. His current role began in February 2021, following a year in the team as a contractor. He is responsible for executing investments in infrastructure projects such as energy storage systems, whether acquired before construction or when already operational.

Charlie has extensive experience in the development, funding and asset management of distributed energy infrastructure projects assisting both investment managers and project developers at every stage of bringing their projects to fruition. He has worked on projects in a wide range of technologies including solar PV, hydroelectric power, anaerobic digestion, combined heat and power, thermal heat networks, gas peaking and grid-scale battery storage.

He started his career over 20 years ago as a commercial solicitor before transitioning to renewable energy, working with investment management firms for the last nine years.

Charlie studied science of materials at Trinity College Dublin and has an MBA from INSEAD, France.

Chloe Jacquet Asset Manager, New Energy

Chloe joined Gresham House in July 2019, having spent over three years in infrastructure operations at Oxford Capital. Prior to Oxford Capital, she was Acquisitions Manager at Inazin and a Project Officer at TRW, a ZF Group company. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Nottingham and an MBA from RAC, Cirencester.

Chris Elliott Head of Wholesale Retail Funds

Chris is Head of Wholesale Retail Funds and joined Gresham House in July 2021.

Prior to this he was Head of Strategic Partnerships at LGBR Capital where he focused on developing key strategic relationships in the UK discretionary market. He was one of the founding members of LGBR Capital, helping to grow the business from launch in 2012 into one of the largest outsourced distributors in the UK.

Chris previously held business development and client relationship positions at Matrix Asset Management and Goldman Sachs.

Chris has 14 years’ industry experience and holds a BSc (Hons) in Economics from Queen Mary, University of London. He is a CAIA Charterholder and has passed both the Certificate in ESG Investing and the Investment Management Certificate from the CFA Society of the UK.

Chris Kilroy Investment Director, VCTs

Chris joined the Mobeus VCT team in September 2021, just before Gresham House took on the mandate. He is focused on investing in early and growth-stage digital and software companies, working on deal origination and execution.

He joined from Mercia Asset Management, where he had spent five and a half years, progressing from Associate to Investment Director and managing Mercia’s EIS Fund. Prior to Mercia, he spent two years as an Analyst at Craigie Capital.

Chris holds a  BA (Hons) in Business and Management from the University of Exeter, during which he spent time at Nanjing University in China.

Ciarán Walsh Asset Manager, Forestry

Ciarán joined Gresham House as an Asset Manager within the forestry team in March 2021.

He has experience in both the public and private sectors in the UK and Ireland. He has experience of working within the forestry regulatory environment and in large scale commercial forest management, resource planning and timber harvesting.

Ciarán achieved a first class degree in forestry from University College Dublin following which he began his forestry career as a timber harvesting manager in Ireland and over the next 7 years went on to work in a variety of roles in commercial forest management and regulation.

Clive Austin Managing Director, VCT Portfolio

Clive is an investment management specialist with experience across a wide variety of sectors and stages of company development. He has worked in the private equity industry since 1995 and has acted as Non-Executive Director and Chairman of a wide range of private equity backed businesses.

He has been working with the Mobeus VCTs since 2013, sits on the Investment Committee and also has responsibility for the portfolio valuations processes. His previous experience includes as a Director at 3i, Catapult Venture Managers and NVM Private Equity.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Physics & Electronics from Durham University, a DipM from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and an MBA from the University of Warwick.

D’an Greaves-John Finance Administrator

D’an joined Gresham House in October 2020 and supports the Strategic Equity teams in their trading requirements, ensuring fund valuations are up to date and providing the wider team with various reporting documents. She also supports the Fund Accountant and Financial Controller with the Baronsmead VCTs’ accounting and Board requirements.

D’an previously worked at a large estate agent in the Finance department within a team of six, assisting the Finance Manager, CFO and team in daily accounting across 30 UK offices and supporting month/year end duties. She has completed the AAT Level 2 qualification in just four months and is one exam away from completing the AAT Level 3 qualification. Upon completion, D’an will go on to study AAT Level 4 becoming a fully qualified Accounting technician. D’an has a passion for accounting and aims to later study towards the ACCA qualification to become a Chartered Accountant.

Dane Hildebrandt Fund Controller

Dane joined Gresham House in March 2021 and is based in the London office working as Fund Controller for the Baronsmead VCTs.

Prior to Gresham House, Dane worked at Laurium Capital in South Africa as Financial Controller, managing the operations of the finance function. Previously, Dane worked at a family office in London as Financial Controller gaining valuable experience in venture capital investments, deal structuring, valuation and performance measurement and assessment. Dane has over four years’ experience in asset management and seven years’ experience in finance having worked for EY for several years post-Articles.

Dane qualified as a Chartered Accountant at EY in South Africa and holds a postgraduate Honours degree in Accounting Sciences from the University of South Africa, where he passed his degree with Cum Laude. Dane is currently registered to sit for the CFA Level III Examination and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

David Gardner CIO, Forestry

David Gardner has been CIO, Forestry and a member of the Forestry Investment Committee at Gresham House since May 2020. He joined the firm from Global Forest Partners LP, a US based timber management and investment company, where he worked from 2009 to 2019. David is responsible for developing the company’s international growth as well as supporting the management of the existing forestry investments. While at Global Forest Partners, David served as an Investment Director as well as being a partner and serving on the Investment Committee. Prior to that, he worked at the international management consulting firm Pӧyry, based in Singapore. David has over 30 years of experience in the global forest industry, with the last ten years focused on international institutional investment and asset management in forestry. David holds a Bachelor of Science, a Master’s degree in Forestry and is an MBA graduate from Cranfield University.

Diane Abeyawickrama, CFA Finance Director, Housing

Diane has been Finance Director, Housing at Gresham House since April 2021.

Diane has over 14 years’ experience in financial services in the UK, most recently as Finance Director at Kingswood Wealth Group for a year. She previously held the position of Group Financial Controller at Round Hill Capital, a Private Equity group investing in residential real estate, student accommodation and property development from 2016 to 2019. Diane helped set up Jetstone Asset Management, a London based Fund of Funds as Finance Director from 2013 to 2015, prior to which she managed the corporate team at one of the largest hedge funds in the UK, Brevan Howard Asset Management, as Head of Finance for over 5 years.

Diane started her career at PwC Sri Lanka, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Management Accountant and later CFA, and has over 20 years’ experience in finance in Sri Lanka, Bermuda and London across insurance, telecoms and financial services industries.

Dragos Smeu Finance Assistant

Dragos Smeu is a member of the Real Assets finance team in Gresham House’s Oxford office, assisting with a broad range of finance matters. He works on a variety of funds and clients, and this will continue to expand with the business.

Ed Simpson Investment Director, New Energy

Ed has been an Investment Director at Gresham House since February 2019. Ed has been working with growth companies since 2000 as a corporate finance adviser, COO, CFO and investor. Prior to joining Gresham House, Ed was focusing on renewable energy and infrastructure at Downing LLP, where he was Head of the Energy and Infrastructure team, managing over £400m of assets under management. From December 2010 to June 2013, he worked as an Investment Director for 350 Investment Partners, the fund managers of the Carbon Trust venture investments and the North West Fund for Energy and Environmental. Prior to that Ed was working at Bridges Ventures from 2008 to 2010 where he began focusing on social impact and sustainable investing. Ed has experience in originating, negotiating and managing venture, growth and infrastructure transactions and actively managing a portfolio of investments through to profitable exit. He has 25 years of experience, holds an MA in Economics from Cambridge and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in 1998.

Ed Wass Portfolio Partner

Ed brings nearly 20 years’ experience of helping SMEs to create and realise shareholder value to his role. He has been working with Mobeus VCT management teams since 2017 to help them achieve their ambitions for growth and has overseen several notable exits in that time, including Automated Systems Group, Access-IS and Auction Technology Group. He also led the successful IPO of Virgin Wines in 2021.

Ed represents the Mobeus VCTs directly on the Board of several businesses, including Virgin Wines, RotaGeek and Vivacity Labs. His previous roles include CIO at Catapult Ventures in Assurance and Business Recovery Services at PwC. Ed was named one of Real Deals’ Future 40 Investment Leaders in April 2021.

He holds a BA (Hons) in Ancient History from the University of Nottingham and is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW).

Edward Latter Investment Director, Forestry

Edward Latter has been a Fund Manager at Gresham House since May 2018. He manages Gresham House Forest Fund I LP and FIM Sustainable Timber and Energy LP, and is primarily responsible for implementing the fund’s strategy, operational oversight and investor reporting. His role also involves the valuation of UK forestry assets and overseeing fund deal flows. Prior to joining Gresham House, he worked at FIM Services Ltd as an Assistant Fund Manager from 2012 and was appointed Fund Manager of Gresham House Forest Fund I LP in 2016 and FIM Sustainable Timber and Energy LP in 2019. Prior to this, Ed worked as a graduate surveyor for Cluttons LLP for three years where he dealt with UK commercial property portfolios for institutional and high net worth individuals. Ed is a Chartered Surveyor and a RICS Registered Valuer. He has 11 years of experience and holds a postgraduate diploma (PG Dip) in Financial Strategy from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a RICS accredited BA (Hons) degree in Real Estate from Oxford Brookes University. He also obtained the Investment Management Certificate.

Elizabeth Brown Associate

Elizabeth is an Associate at Gresham House, following the acquisition of TradeRisks in March 2020.

Elizabeth supports the housing team covering Local Authority debt transactions and Housing Association business plan analysis. Prior to joining, Elizabeth spent four years at EY in the audit department, with a focus on asset management and private equity companies. Elizabeth has four years of professional experience and is a Chartered Accountant.

She holds a first-class honours degree in Mathematics from Durham University and is currently studying towards the CFA qualification.

Ellie Bracher Administrative Assistant

Ellie joined Gresham House in February 2021 as an administrative assistant and primarily assists the Forestry team. Ellie has 6 years’ experience working within the financial services sector in both administrative and operational roles.

She holds a BSc in Equestrian Sports Science from Nottingham Trent University.

Emily Dixon Team Personal Assistant

Emily joined Gresham House in early 2019 and is responsible for assisting the Operations, Technical, Distribution and Marketing teams. Prior to joining Gresham House, Emily spent five years in Hong Kong working in marketing, customer service and lifestyle management roles at Quintessentially and Bloom & Grow. Emily holds a BA (Hons) in Events Management from Leeds Beckett University.

Fergus Wigan Associate

Fergus is an Associate at Gresham House, having joined the firm in March 2020 after the acquisition of TradeRisks.

Fergus works on the origination team for both Local Authority and Housing Association clients and is responsible for client engagement, specialising in winning new business for the capital markets desk. He previously worked for the Canary Wharf Group distributing advertising space and has contracted at strategy houses such as Plural Strategy and Fairgrove Partners, where he provided extensive project assistance.

Fergus holds an MSc in Consumer Behaviour from Goldsmiths University and a certificate in Investment Management from CISI.

Fernando Casas Garcia Head of Operations & Asset Management

Fernando joined Gresham House in May 2021 and is focused on the design, development and deployment of processes and procedures that allow the New Energy team to increase MW under management each year.

Fernando has 15 years’ experience in the Renewable Energy sector, specifically in the Solar PV industry. Prior to Gresham House, he was Global Head of Technical for a 2.2GW Solar PV portfolio at WiseEnergy (Next Energy Group company), focused on the operation of their Solar PV assets and increasing overall revenues.

Fernando holds a BEng in Industrial Engineering from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and an MSc in Energy and Sustainability with Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Southampton. He also holds a Global Executive MBA from IESE Business School, Barcelona.

Francis Ireland Analyst, Forestry

Francis joined the Forestry division of Gresham House in February 2021 as an Analyst.

Francis obtained a 1st class degree from the University of Manchester reading International Business, Finance & Economics. Following this he completed a Master’s in Finance, also at the University of Manchester, for which he was awarded a Distinction and the Alliance Manchester Business School Academic Scholarship.

Gareth Owen Investment Director, New Energy

Gareth has been an Investment Director at Gresham House since November 2017. He joined the company following the acquisition of Hazel Capital where he was a Partner. Gareth is responsible for executing investments, particularly acquisitions, disposals and limited recourse financings of pre-and-post commissioned renewables projects. Prior to joining Hazel Capital, he worked at Barclays Capital from 2001 to 2009, latterly as a Vice President for Barclays Natural Resource Investments, a c.US$1.5bn captive private equity fund investing in natural resources and renewable energy. Prior to that, he worked in the Structured Capital Markets divisions of Barclays Capital and Deutsche Bank, handling the acquisition and disposal of various asset-based companies. He started his career in infrastructure project finance at NatWest Markets, advising on and financing a number of Private Finance Initiative (PFI) / Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects. Gareth has over 20 years of experience and holds an MBA from Imperial College Business School, an MSc in Engineering Project Management and a BEng in Civil Engineering, both from the University of Manchester.

Gary Cresswell Financial Controller

Gary joined Gresham House in 2005 and is currently the Group Financial Controller,  providing support to the FD and providing accurate and timely financial information to assist in the smooth running of the Group.

Gary Smith Senior Finance Manager

Gary is responsible for the financial and accounting activities of our new Energy Storage Fund. Prior to joining Gresham House, Gary was a qualified accountant with a background in statutory accounts and external audit.

Gary has 10 years of experience working with a range of clients from charities and owner managed businesses to multinational group corporations. Gary is a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) and holds a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the University of Portsmouth.

Gemma Richards Senior Finance Manager

Gemma joined Gresham House in February 2019. She is the Finance Manager for FIM Forest Fund I LP, FIM Solar Distribution and Generation, and FIM Timberland LP. Prior to joining Gresham House she gained 20 years’ experience as a management accountant in a variety of industries, including renewable energy, during her time with Opus Energy Ltd. Gemma has a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from Cardiff University and is ACCA qualified.

Geoff Lambert Head of Compliance

Geoff joined Gresham House in August 2019, after spending 4 years at Nikko Asset Management. Prior to that he held compliance roles at Henderson Global Investors, Royal London and Barclays Wealth. He began his career in personal banking at HSBC.

George Fraser Assistant Company Secretary, Mobeus VCTs

George joined the Mobeus VCT team in October 2018 and is responsible for supporting all Company Secretarial matters relating to the four Mobeus VCTs advises.

Prior to joining, he held roles at the City of London Corporation, as Committee and Member Services Officer, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, as International Liaison.

George holds an MA (Hons) in International Relations from Goldsmiths, University of London and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Reading.

Giles Whitman Portfolio Consultant

Giles joined the Mobeus VCTs in 2020, representing us on the Board of Red Paddle Co. He brings over 11 years’ experience of helping SMEs to create and realise shareholder value. His other main focus is running Vedge Snacks, his start-up food company.

Giles is a generalist with particular experience in business services, recycling and renewable energy. He previously held the role of Investment Director at Growth Capital Partners and YFM Equity Partners. Prior to this, he spent time at Foresight Group, EY and HSBC Investment Bank.

He holds a BSc in Economics & Economic History from the University of Bristol and is a Chartered Accountant (ICAS).

Gourav Choudhary Director, Capital Markets

Gourav is a Director in the Capital Markets team at Gresham House, following the acquisition of TradeRisks in March 2020,  and is a member of the Housing and Infrastructure team. Since joining  TradeRisks, he has been responsible for executing on advisory engagements for both housing associations and infrastructure clients.

He previously worked at Arcus Infrastructure Partners in their core infrastructure investments team, where he was responsible for reviewing and executing on new investment opportunities. Prior to this, Gourav worked at PIMCO in the financial advisory team where he was responsible for assessing the credit quality of infrastructure loan books. He also spent a number of years working in the infrastructure advisory team of EY in the UK and Australia. Gourav’s recent work experience includes advising a fibre network developer on funding their projects.

Gourav has over 15 years of professional experience in financial advisory and investment. He holds a Master of Commerce degree from Macquarie University and qualified as an Actuary with the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

 

Graham Carter Investment Director, Forestry

Graham is an experienced forestry professional, responsible for all operational aspects of the Gresham House forestry funds. After a short period of practical experience in the UK, Sweden and New Zealand, he joined UA Forestry Ltd (a division of United Auctions Group) as a forest manager, progressing to become their managing director in 1997.

In 2001, he left UA to found his own forestry management company, Aspen Forestry Ltd, which specialised in providing forest management services across Scotland. Following the successful sale of Aspen, Graham joined Gresham House in 2007. His specialism is in developing, negotiating and managing non-forestry ‘higher and better use’ investments on behalf of client funds, particularly renewable energy developments, telecom rentals, power line access and compensation and residential developments.

Gregory Blin Investment Partner, VCTs

Greg joined the Mobeus VCT team in 2013. He sources and executes investments into fast-growing businesses and is our resident consumer expert. He combines a natural flair for understanding the drivers of brand value, insight into wider market dynamics and strong corporate finance experience. He sits on the Boards of Buster + Punch and Bleach London.

Greg joined Mobeus from Piper Private Equity and previously worked at PwC in Corporate Finance.

He holds a BA/ ACC in Business Studies & Accounting from the University of Edinburgh and is a Chartered Accountant (ICAS).

Hannah Howard-Jones, MRICS Head of Property

Hannah is Head of Property for Gresham House since July 2021, where she is responsible for the overall management and performance of the portfolio.

Hannah has over 10 years’ experience in residential property, having worked in both private practice before moving client side. Before joining Gresham House, Hannah headed up the property team for a local authority owned developer where she oversaw acquisitions, sales and the management of the completed developments. Prior to that, Hannah was Head of Residential Strategy for a FTS250 listed business which specialised in residential freehold, long leasehold and BTR/ PRS assets.

Hannah is a Chartered Surveyor and holds a Bachelor’s in building surveying from London South Bank University.

Hazel Cameron Head of Portfolio Talent

With over 20 years in private equity, Hazel is an experienced investor and director, and has helped build numerous quality boards. Hazel qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen before spending a few years in corporate finance with British Linen Bank advising public and private companies.

She joined 3i in 1993 and in 2000 opened a London private equity office for Bowman Capital, a $6bn hedge fund with $750m for private equity. She invested throughout Europe before gaining operational experience by heading up the UK for Cross Atlantic Capital Partners. Since 2000, Hazel has been sitting on boards for private equity and independently and since 2006, she has been formally helping companies build quality boards and management teams.

Hazel joined Gresham House in March 2019. She continues to help create and maintain quality teams and is a Non-Executive Director at Parsley Box, a food delivery firm.

Heather Fleming Managing Director, Institutional Business

Heather is Managing Director, Institutional Business and a member of the GHAM Board. Heather held the position of Head of Institutional Business from May 2018 to April 2021. Prior to joining Gresham House, Heather spent seven years at Fidelity International, latterly as Head of Institutional Distribution for UK & Ireland. She previously held business development and client relationship positions at BankInvest, Capital International and Gartmore where she held roles focussed on U.K & Ireland and Nordic institutional investors.

Heather has 24 years of financial experience and holds a BA (Hons) in Politics from Durham University and the Investment Management Certificate from the CFA Society of the UK.

Henrietta Russell Asset Manager, Forestry

Henrietta Russell has been a Forestry Asset Manager at Gresham House since October 2016. She manages existing assets on behalf of Gresham House private clients. She joined Gresham House from Butler Sherborn where she worked as a Rural Chartered Surveyor for private clients. She was responsible for managing rural estates and property in the UK. Henrietta has over 14 years of experience in rural property. She has been a member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) (MRICS) for 11 years and is a retired Fellow of Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV). She holds a BSc (Hons) in Land Management from the University of Reading graduating in 2006.

Henry Alty Investment Director, Gresham House Ventures

Henry joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge since 2016. He focuses on growth capital investments into software and service businesses in the financial and professional services sectors, with particular interest in process and workflow automation software, service companies looking to drive digital transformation, scale-ups looking to improve the use of data and analytics for large incumbents (banks, insurers, legal firms, etc.), and new methods of communication and collaboration.

Prior to Livingbridge, Henry worked at VCT fund manager Foresight Group for three and a half years, and at TMT focused strategy consultancy Spectrum for six years on projects in wireless communications, technology and media strategy.

He has a first class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford and is a CFA charter holder.

Izzy (Richard) van Romunde, CFA Associate Director

Izzy is an Associate Director at Gresham House, leading on commercial and carbon forestry investment appraisals in the UK and internationally. Izzy joined Gresham House in May 2018 following the acquisition of FIM Services Ltd. Prior to joining Gresham House, Izzy worked for over six years in commercial real estate advisory, building out investment and agency team platforms at Cushman & Wakefield, Knight Frank, and Strutt and Parker, forming and executing strategic and complex projects. Prior to this Izzy worked as an Investment Analyst at European equity hedge fund Libra Equity. Izzy is the youngest visiting professor at the prestigious IEB University in Madrid, teaching the CFA curriculum. Izzy has over 10 years of experience, is a CFA charterholder and has an MSc in Finance from the University of Exeter. He is also fluent in Spanish and Dutch.

Jacqueline Kelly Senior Finance Manager

Jacqueline is an accountant with over 20 years of experience across accounting, treasury, budgeting, management and administration. Having worked at FIM for 10 years prior to their acquisition, she is responsible for financial reporting, managing year-end audit processes, various tax and VAT matters for the division and also a number of High Net Worth Individuals.

She provides support to the Divisional Financial Director, producing accurate and timely financial information to assist in the smooth running of the Group and its Clients. Before working in financial services, Jacqueline spent a number of years working for an ATM deployment firm, dealing with daily transactions in excess of £1m at the Bank of England.

James Armstrong Investment Associate

James Armstrong is an Investment Associate, working across forestry and renewables.  He joined Gresham House in May 2018 following the acquisition of FIM Services Ltd.

James focuses on the acquisition of new assets and takes an active role in the day to day management of the portfolio. Prior to joining Gresham House, he worked at J.P. Morgan, RWE Supply and Trading and most recently spent four years at Computershare Investor Services as an equity dealer, managing a range of global share plans and option schemes on behalf of corporate clients.

James has ten years of experience in financial services and holds a BA (Hons) in Business Administration from the University of Plymouth. He has also obtained the Investment Management Certificate and is enrolled as a Level II candidate in the CFA program.

James Bustin Investment Associate,
New Energy

James joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge. Prior to this he worked in TMT audit at EY for 3 years, where he qualified as a chartered accountant.

James holds a first-class Master’s degree in Mathematics from Durham University.

James Gilbert Marketing Manager

James joined in May 2019 and covers group and product marketing to communicate with shareholders, investors and clients, raise brand awareness, and produce high quality marketing materials and messaging.

Prior to Gresham House, James headed up communications and marketing for Lloyd’s of London insurance syndicate, Neon Underwriting and spent time in the marketing teams at data management fintech, Asset Control and retail currency provider, ICE – International Currency Exchange. He has also worked agency-side, for an independently-owned FMCG marketing and advertising agency, concentrated on radio advertising and major UK events. James began his marketing career at the UK’s largest used vehicle marketplace, British Car Auctions.

James is a multidisciplinary copywriting and design specialist with a BA (Hons) in Journalism and an MA in Communication and International Marketing from the University of Surrey.

James Hendry Investment Manager, Gresham House Ventures

James joined Gresham House as an Investment Manager in December 2019. Prior to this he spent five years at PwC, latterly working in the financial due diligence team.

James is a Chartered Accountant and read Economics and Accounting at Edinburgh University.

James Lindsay Head of Institutional Business

James joined Gresham House in April 2021 and is responsible for client solutions, business development, global consultant relations and client service.

Prior to Gresham House, James spent 14 years at MFS Investment Management, latterly as Head of Institutional Sales and Consultant Relations, UK and Ireland. He previously held business development and client relationship positions at Columbia Threadneedle and Fidelity International.

James has over 20 years of financial experience and holds a BA (Hons) in Business Studies from Nottingham Business School. James sits on the Advisory Council of AIMSE Europe and affiliations include the Investment Management Certificate (IMC).

James Pendower IT Manager

James Pendower is IT Manager at Gresham House, following the acquisition of TradeRisks in March 2020. At TradeRisks, he worked overseeing and managing all the IT functions for 7 years, nearly 3 of which as IT Director. James is taking the lead in the IT integration project between Traderisks and Gresham House and will move into a role across all of Gresham House once the project is completed. Prior to that, he worked as Technical Manager at Phoenix SSI for over five years where he was responsible for server operations across a wide range of businesses. He has 12 years experience in the IT industry and is certified by Microsoft as an MCITP and is a member of the iisp.

Jane Reoch Investment Director

Jane joined the Mobeus VCT team in 2017 and works on sourcing and executing investments into fast-growing businesses. Most recently she led investments into Northern Bloc, Connect Childcare, Andersen EV and Kudos, a Series C round for mpb.com and our exit from Lightworks. Jane is also a Non-Executive Director for a number of our investee companies.

She has held Investment Director roles at Panoramic Growth Equity and Cass Entrepreneurship Fund. Prior to this, she worked at the Business Growth Fund.

Jane was named one of Management Today’s ‘35 women under 35 2015’ and in the top ten ‘Trailblazing Women in Investment’ 2021 from Lightbulb Leadership Solutions

She holds a BSc in Business Studies & Accounts from the University of Edinburgh.

Jason Sinden Investment Director, Forestry

Jason Sinden is an Investment Director in Gresham House Forestry, where he primarily focuses on acquisitions. Jason was the Forestry Director for FIM Services Ltd which was acquired by Gresham House in May 2018. Jason began working in forestry investment with FIM Services Ltd as an Investment Manager in 2000, before leaving to join Tilhill Forestry in 2005. At Tilhill Forestry, he developed the forestry investment business, and was promoted to Investment and Property Director in 2015 before re-joining FIM Services Ltd in 2017 as a Forestry Director. Jason has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, together with a further five years in the forestry and timber processing industry. During his career, he has worked on many high-profile forestry acquisitions and woodland creation projects in the UK, as well as investment projects in Scandinavia and eastern Europe. He graduated from the University of Aberdeen with an Honours Degree in Forest Management, before completing an MBA from the Open University. This was followed by the Senior Management Development Programme at IMD (Lausanne). Jason is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters and a Chartered Surveyor.

Jessica England Operations Manager

Jessica joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge for five years. Based in the London office she works as the Operations Manager. Jessica is a qualified management accountant and holds a BA (Hons) in Business Management from the University of Lincoln.

Jessica Morales Executive Assistant

Jessica is Executive Assistant to the Management team at Gresham House. Jessica joined from the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group where she previously worked as team personal assistant to the investment team.

Jeston Na Nakhorn Chief of Staff

Jeston joined Gresham House in September 2019, having spent two and a half years as an independent management consultant.

Prior to this, he spent time as COO of Vauban Group and 4 years at Sainsbury’s in profit protection and major store management.

Jeston spent his early career as an officer in the British Army for 16 years and holds a BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Bristol.

Joe Krancki Investment Director, VCTs

Joe joined the Mobeus VCT team in 2021. He originates and leads growth capital investments in technology-led businesses. Joe has over 20 years’ experience helping to build, transform, and grow companies across North America and Europe. He is passionate about partnering with ambitious entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and deepen their impact, focusing on software, data & analytics, tech-enabled services, and online market places.

Joe joined Mobeus from Frog Capital, where he was a Partner, and previously held roles at Jefferies, 3i and EY. He was named one of the Financial News 40-Under-40 Rising Stars in Private Equity in 2015

He holds a BSc and MSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and an MBA from London Business School.

Joe Thomas Investment Director

Joe is an Investment Director, focused primarily on sourcing and executing new investments for the Housing team. Prior to joining Gresham House, Joe worked for Lloyds Banking Group in their structured finance team, primarily supporting UK companies with the structuring and execution of secured capital markets transactions across the UK Real Assets space. At Lloyds, Joe was involved in a number of securitisations transactions as well as working within the corporate restructuring and private equity investment teams. Joe holds a BA (Hons) and MA from Durham University and is a CFA charter holder.

John O’Toole Technical Director

John has been Technical Director at Gresham House since November 2017. He joined the firm following the acquisition of Hazel Capital and is responsible for the technical development and optimisation of energy storage assets, and technical support for existing solar and wind assets. Prior to his experience at Hazel Capital, John worked in the UK solar sector, initiating O&M and asset management for a number of ground-mounted solar PV asset portfolios with a total generation capacity of over 600 MW. Prior to this, he managed the operational control, trading and grid-interface of a UK wind portfolio at RWE/Npower with over 1 GW generation capacity. Before moving to London in 2011, John worked with the Irish utility ESB, in management roles in a 400 MW CCGT plant, and in trading/commercial optimisation of CCGT assets in the UK and Ireland. John is a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years of experience and holds a BE in Mechanical Engineering from University College Dublin, an MSc in Operations Management from Dublin City University and an MBA from the Open University.

Jonathan Walker, CFA Sustainable Investment Manager

Jonathan joined Gresham House as Sustainable Investment Manager in August 2021.

Before joining Gresham House, Jonathan worked at Morgan Stanley for six years, most recently as a research analyst within the Sustainability Research team ranked number one for SRI research in the 2020 European Institutional Investor survey. His primary areas of focus included cross-sector sustainability research and European sustainable finance regulation, as well as working closely with the firm’s institutional clients on incorporating ESG into their investment processes.

Prior to this Jonathan worked as a stock-covering analyst in Morgan Stanley’s Property Research team with particular focus on pan-European industrial and logistics property. He started his career as a European equity trader.

Jonathan holds a first-class degree in English Literature from the University of Bristol and is a CFA charter holder.

Josh Phillips Investment Manager

Josh is an Investment Manager focusing on forestry acquisitions and the fund management of the Forestry Limited Partnerships. He holds a BA (Hons) from Reading University, is an ACA chartered accountant and is currently studying towards the Investment Management Certificate.

Previously, Josh was awarded a place on PricewaterhouseCoopers’ prestigious Flying Start degree programme before joining the firm full time as a Senior Associate, specialising in financial services. He then moved onto Hazlewoods LLP to focus on mergers and acquisitions concentrating on corporate due diligence.

Julie McCarthy Senior Executive Administrator

Julie is a senior executive administrator to the direct acquisitions fund manager, and also deals with the day to day administration of two of the Limited Partnerships. Prior to joining Gresham House, Julie worked for the credit management arm of the Royal Bank of Scotland. She started at FIM October 2013 and holds a Btech in Business and Finance.

June Cottington Software Developer

June Cottington is a Software Developer at Gresham House, following the acquisition of TradeRisks in March 2020.

She joined TradeRisks in March 2018.  She supports all in-house software, primarily supporting the Debt Management System software.

June has over 30 years’ experience in a variety of application areas and software and holds a BSc in Mathematics & Computer Science.

Karen Napier Office Manager

Fund accounting, treasury, management and administration. Karen is an experienced accountant and has worked with Graham Carter for many years, first at UA Forestry, then at Aspen, and finally joining Gresham House Forestry in 2007.

Karen Tolputt Finance Assistant

Karen joined Gresham House in April 2019 and works as a Finance Assistant supporting the Finance Managers in our Oxford office.  Prior to this, Karen spent 11 years working in the finance department at CAE Oxford Aviation Academy.

Katie Hills Admin Team Assistant

Admin Team Assistant within the Oxford Administration team predominantly assisting the Senior Executive Administrators as well as providing organisation to the Oxford office.
Joined in January 2020 having previously worked as an Administration Assistant at an Estate Agents.
Holds a BSc(Hons) in Rural Land Management from the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester.

Keisha-Ann Duodu Institutional Sales Associate

Keisha-Ann joined Gresham House in November 2020 as part of the Institutional Sales team responsible for institutional business development, global consultant relations and client service.

Prior to joining Gresham House, Keisha spent five years at Systematic Investment Manager, Winton, where she was responsible for investor relations coverage of global Institutional and Wholesale clients including Public Pension Funds, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Family Offices, Endowments and Investment Consultants.

She holds a BA (Hons) in Geography from the University of Leeds, and is currently studying for the IMC from the CFA Society of the UK.

Ken Wotton Managing Director, Public Equity

Ken is Managing Director, Public Equity, and leads the investment team managing public equity investments. He is lead manager for LF Gresham House UK Micro Cap Fund, LF Gresham House UK Multi Cap Income Fund, Strategic Equity Capital plc and manages AIM listed portfolios on behalf of the Baronsmead VCTs. Ken graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford, before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG. He was an equity research analyst with Commerzbank and then Evolution Securities prior to spending the past 12 years as a Fund Manager at Livingbridge and now Gresham House specialising in smaller companies.

Kevin Acton Chief Financial Officer, Gresham House plc

Kevin is the Chief Financial Officer for Gresham House plc and has over 19 years of finance and operational experience in private equity. Kevin joined Gresham House from Oaktree Capital Management where he was a senior vice president responsible for finance and operations in the European Principal team covering private equity and debt opportunity funds. Prior to joining Oaktree, Kevin was Director – Group Reporting and Valuations at 3i Group plc.

Kevin qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He also holds a BCom from the University of Edinburgh.

Krystyna Slota Senior Finance Manager

Krystyna is a Finance Manager and is responsible for preparing accounts, and day to day finance matters for FIM Forest Fund I LP and a portfolio of renewable energy entities. She also manages the year-end audit process and VAT matters. Krystyna joined FIM Services Ltd in October 2015 as a Finance Assistant and soon progressed to Finance Manager. She has an HND in Business Management and is ACCA part-qualified.

Laurence Hulse Associate Director

Laurence is a Fund Manager in the Public Equity team. Joining Gresham House in 2015, Laurence is an integral part of the team managing Strategic Public Equity LP and the LF Gresham House UK Smaller Companies Fund and previously managing Gresham House Strategic plc.

Laurence holds a bachelor’s degree in Politics from the University of Warwick. During his studies, he interned at Rothschild & Co, working on the Mergers and Acquisitions Team in the industrial sector, and at Barclays Capital on the equities trading floor before joining Gresham House. In 2021 he was nominated for the Investment Week Rising star of investment companies award.

Liz Henderson Legal Associate

Liz joined Gresham House in August 2019 and is a member of the Legal & Compliance team, responsible for commercial contracts, data protection and aspects of compliance and corporate governance.

Prior to Gresham House, Liz worked at Montagu Private Equity, London and the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority in Melbourne where she was Legal Counsel. Liz qualified as a lawyer in Australia and has broad legal experience.

Liz Rex Institutional Sales Manager

Liz joined Gresham House from Legal & General Investment Management, where she was an Investment Reporting Analyst working with Institutional clients.

Prior to Legal & General, Liz held roles as a Client Service Analyst at Wellington Management, covering the Global Wealth channel in Europe and Asia, and as an Investor Relations Specialist at NewSmith Asset Management.

Liz holds the Investment Management Certificate and has a BA in French & Spanish from University College London.

Lizet Nooren Finance Business Partner

Lizet joined Gresham House in November 2017 as Finance Manager following the acquisition of Hazel Capital. She is responsible for Finance Business Partnering for New Energy and Sustainable Infrastructure.

Lizet has more than 18 years of accounting experience in both internal and external audit. She previously worked for six years in the French office of CNA, the leading European specialist commercial insurer. She began her career with EY, spending four years in the Dutch and Belgian offices. She studied for a BSc in Accounting at Nyenrode University in the Netherlands and holds a BBA in Economics from Avans Hogeschool Breda.

Lizzie Darbourne Group Marketing Director

Lizzie is Group Marketing Director at Gresham House. She held the title of Marketing Director since April 2018, having previously held the role within the Gresham House New Energy division (formerly Hazel Capital) having joined the business in 2011. She oversees all marketing and reporting activity across the Group to communicate effectively with shareholders, investors and clients, to raise brand awareness and to set and maintain high standards for the quality of marketing materials and messaging.

Whilst at Hazel Capital, Lizzie managed all aspects of the firm’s product offering, which includes VCTs, EIS investments and direct private placements into a portfolio of renewable energy project companies. Lizzie worked at Matrix Group between 2008-2011 in marketing and later UK and global sales within their funds team. Between 2003 and 2008, Lizzie was a member of the British Sailing Team and was runner-up in the trials for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. She competed in the Laser Radial class, which is the women’s single-handed discipline. Lizzie holds a BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Oxford, as well as the IMC.

Louise Richards HR Director

Louise joined Gresham House in March 2019 as HR Director. She is responsible for partnering with the management team in the development of the HR platform and the strategic HR focus of Gresham House, in addition to providing generalist HR support.

Previously Louise has HR experience working across financial institutions, including HSBC and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as well as establishing a HR consultancy focusing on developing people solutions for organisations. Louise holds a BSc in Business Studies and Social Policy from the University of Roehampton and is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD.

Mackenzie Travers Investment Associate, Gresham House Ventures

Mackenzie joined Gresham House in December 2019 having previously spent a year in Technology M&A Advisory at BDO LLP, where he worked on a variety of buy-side and sell-side mandates for owner-managed businesses across the UK. Prior to joining the Technology M&A Advisory team he worked in the Business Services team in BDO for two years, where he supported fast growth businesses in meeting their compliance and reporting requirements.

Before joining BDO, he spent over a year at Inflexion Private Equity where he focused on sourcing and researching investment opportunities, where his interest for investing was sparked.

Mandy Parr Team Personal Assistant

Mandy manages the day-to-day infrastructure and schedules of the Gresham House New Energy team, as well as assisting the finance and the marketing teams. Prior to joining Gresham House, Mandy worked as an Office Manager and Accounting Clerk & Secretary for 8 years at an accountancy firm in South Africa. She has diplomas in both Interior Decorating & Architectural Drawing and Accounting & Finance, as well as Company Secretarial knowledge.

Maria Durkan Financial Controller

Maria leads the team responsible for the day-to-day accounting for the four Mobeus VCTs, from when a new investment is made, through interest payments and follow-ons, to exits and dividends. She reports on returns to the portfolio lead for each investment and also monitors some investments directly. She joined from Matrix Solutions.

Maria is a Chartered Accountant (ACCA) and holds a Diploma in Accounting and Finance from Dublin Business School.

Mark Harper Marketing Director

Mark is Marketing Director, having joined Gresham House in July 2020 as Interim Marketing Director with responsibility for marketing and reporting activity across the Group, with a particular focus on increasing brand awareness and driving the quality of marketing materials and messaging.

Before joining Gresham House, Mark was Head of Marketing at Miton for over eight years where he led the marketing activity and raised the profile of the brand through a time of growth.

Mark has over 25 years’ marketing experience having previously held roles at Gartmore, Invesco Perpetual and Lloyds TSB.

Mark holds a BA (Hons) in History & Politics from the University of the West of England and an MA in Public Relations from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Mark Rogers Chief Executive Officer, ReSI Housing & Head of Origination of ReSI

Mark is the Chief Executive Officer of ReSI Housing and Head of Housing Origination since 2018, leading the acquisitions efforts. He joined Gresham House in March 2020 following the acquisition of TradeRisks. Before joining ReSI Housing, Mark spent 12 years as a Chief Executive of Circle Housing Group, a 65,000-unit housing association, before merging it into the Clarion Group, the largest housing association in the UK. Prior to that, Mark held Chief Executive roles at Anglia Housing Group and Nene Housing Society. He has 38 years’ social housing experience and has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing since 1986.

Mark Wignall Consultant

Mark works on a consultant basis for Gresham House, having been involved with the Mobeus VCTs for 25 years and previously chairing the Mobeus Partnership and investment committees.

Mark brought together the original team that acquired GLE with Matrix Group in 2004 to form Matrix Private Equity Partners. Mark led that group in the MBO from Matrix that formed Mobeus in 2012.

His previous roles include at GLE Development Capital, where he progressed from Portfolio Manager to Managing Director, and MAI plc, as one of their first graduate trainees.

Mark holds a PGDip in Marketing from Kingston University and a BSc in Economics from the University of Leicester.

Masrur Rahman Finance Executive, Equity Funds

Masrur joined Gresham House in November 2018 having previously been at Livingbridge where he worked across the VCT and Equity Funds’. Prior to that, he spent 2 years in ecommerce and trading at Dixons Carphone and 6 months as a trainee accountant with HT Accountants. He holds a first class BSc in Accounting from the University of Westminster.

Matt Jones Investment Associate

Matt joined the Mobeus VCT team in 2021. His key responsibilities include sourcing new investment opportunities and assisting the deal team with transactions. He specialises in Technology, FMCG, manufacturing.

Matt’s previous roles include at HMT, Audit and Transaction Support as an ICAEW trainee and in Strategy and Transactions at EY.

He is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from Newcastle University.

Matt Mead Venture Partner

Matt joined the Mobeus VCT team in 2019 as a Venture Partner working across their VCT investments. He has over 20 years’ experience in early stage and scale-up technology investing.

Previous roles include Corporate Finance at EY, a Partner in 3i’s technology investment business, and CIO roles at the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts (NESTA) and Mercia Technologies plc.

He holds an MBA from the University of Reading and is a Chartered Accountant (ACA).

Matthew Giles Investment Director, Forestry

Matthew Giles has been an Investment Director and the Head of the Forestry Asset Management Team at Gresham House since November 2015 following the successful acquisition of Aitchesse by Gresham House. The team oversees the management of Gresham house clients’ forestry investments where he has the primary responsibility of managing two major portfolios in both the UK and Ireland and leading the ESG initiatives for forestry. Prior to joining Gresham House, Matthew was a Senior Forest Manager for 12 years covering all aspects of forest management across the UK for family offices and high net worth individuals. He previous experience includes the responsibility for FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) audits on all the forest areas. He has over 20 years’ experience in forestry and qualified as a Professional Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters (MICFor) in 2004. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Forestry from Newton Rigg, graduating in 2000.

Matthew Green Investment Director, Forestry

Matt is a chartered surveyor with over 13 years’ experience in investment management. He is responsible for the asset management of Gresham House’s forestry portfolio and for family office and high net worth individuals’ forestry and renewable portfolios worth over £571m. Matt is also responsible for the valuation and acquisition of investment opportunities.

Prior to Gresham House and FIM, Matt worked for Smiths Gore as a rural estate manager, advising a number of private clients on the management of their diverse property portfolios. Before this, he worked for Jones Lang LaSalle in their financial services team advising on the formation of joint venture property development companies. Matt holds the Certificate in Investments and is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Maya Ward Associate Director, Gresham House Ventures

Maya joined Gresham House in September 2019, having spent 4 years at Octopus Investments, investing in real estate-backed healthcare companies and entrepreneurs. Prior to that she worked at KPMG for 7 years in audit and corporate finance. She has a first class degree in Modern History from Oxford and is a Chartered Accountant.

Michael Woodman Head of Structuring, Housing

Michael Woodman is Head of Structuring, Housing at Gresham House following the acquisition of  TradeRisks in March 2020.

Michael had been legal counsel at TradeRisks since 2012 and joined with experience in debt capital markets from an international law firm, having advised clients on a range of capital markets and banking transactions. Michael works closely with client managers and has been responsible for structuring, legal and settlement elements on all financing transactions arranged by TradeRisks. For ReSI Capital Management Limited, Michael has worked closely with the origination team, ensuring deployment of funds, and the investment management team, tasked with borrowing against fund assets in accordance with the investment objective.

Michael is a dual-qualified solicitor active in corporate finance since 2005 and holds an LLB (Hons) from University College London.

 

Nick Vest Financial Controller, Real Assets

Nick joined Gresham House in January 2021 as Financial Controller, Real Assets.

Nick has over 20 years accounting and finance experience, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000. Prior to joining Gresham House, Nick worked as Finance Director for an internationally focused property investment group and before that was Associate Director of Tax at Temenos Group SA in Switzerland.

Nick holds a degree in History with Information Technology from the University of Exeter and is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor.

Oliver Baldwin Associate Director, Housing

Oliver is an Associate Director at Gresham House, following the acquisition of TradeRisks in March 2020. He focuses on developing new and maintaining existing relationships, as well as the financial modelling of new acquisitions for ReSI.

He was previously Head of Acquisitions for a Real Estate developer focusing on development origination and analysis and headed a team of four acquiring and reviewing schemes with a GDV of up to £1bn.

He has six years of housing and residential investment experience and holds a BSc in Real Estate, Finance & Investment from Cass Business School.

Olly Hughes Managing Director,
Forestry

Olly Hughes has been Managing Director and Investment Committee member of the Forestry division of Gresham House since January 2019. He is responsible for managing the growth and development of Gresham House’s forestry activities including acquisitions, fund and private client management and forestry asset management. Prior to joining Gresham House, he was a Partner and Head of Infrastructure at Oxford Capital for six years where he built and managed a portfolio of over £300m of solar and wind renewable energy assets. He started his career at ING Barings in 1995 focusing on asset backed structuring and since then has focused his career on real asset investment management. Olly has over 20 years of investment experience and holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree from the University of Oxford in Biological Science. He also obtained the Investment Management Certificate from the CFA Society in the UK.

Paul Weaver Project Manager, Energy Storage

Paul has been in construction since 1986 and held Director roles since 1998 and involved in renewable energy since 2010.

Prior to joining Gresham House Paul has held roles of Head of Energy at Balfour Beatty plc and Managing Director UK at Conergy, a global provider of large-scale solar PV projects. He has 35 years professional experience (construction).

Paul has previously sat on the route map working group feeding into the Green Construction Board chaired by Paul Morrell, Governments first Chief Construction Adviser. He was also a member of the British PV Association Executive Committee.

Paul has numerous Ministerial roundtables with Ministers including Ed Davey, Greg Barker and Amber Rudd. Presented at numerous industry events including ECO Build, DECC Forum events and Clean Energy Live.

In his private life Paul is President of Leigh & Bransford Badger FC.

Pete Redman Head of Housing Management
& Investment Committee Member, ReSI plc

Pete has been Head of Housing Management at Gresham House since March 2020, following the acquisition of TradeRisks. He is responsible for due diligence on residential acquisitions and operational performance by ReSI’s property managers and leaseholders. He has built a strong reputation in the housing sector on topics like the market dynamics and development economics. He has been an advisor to the Greater London Authority, the Scottish Government, and was a member of the team that won the Wolfson Economics Prize in 2014 on housing supply. Pete was Chief Executive of Notting Hill Housing Group and Chief Officer at two London Boroughs. He joined TradeRisks Ltd in 2013 and has 46 years’ experience in residential portfolio management. Pete studied Engineering and Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, is an Alumni of the London Business School, and is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Peter Bachmann Managing Director, Sustainable Infrastructure

Peter joined Gresham House in June 2020 and is the Managing Director of the Sustainable Infrastructure division and a Fund Manager for BSIF. He is also a member of the Gresham House Sustainable Investment Committee.

Prior to Gresham House, Peter led the investment and exit of the Sustainable Infrastructure-focused Environmental Capital Fund (ECF) for SEP, one of Europe’s most successful VC firms. He has over 20 years of public and private equity investment and fund management experience and has invested into and exited over 170 infrastructure and technology companies across all sectors with an equity value of over £1.3bn and capital value of c.£5bn.

Prior to SEP, Peter was co-founder of renewables developer and investor EIDC; Team Head of secondary infrastructure and renewables at Land Securities Trillium; a partner of the PPP/PFI focused private equity fund SMIF (now Semperian); and a founding member of Challenger’s infrastructure team. Peter has had board member roles on over 50 investee companies. He is also a judge and mentor of the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership (CISL) Accelerator and the CleanTech Challenge. Peter is an active investor in early-stage sustainability companies.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with honours and two further Bachelor degrees in Finance (BFin) and Commerce (BCom), all from the University of Adelaide, and is a graduate of CISL’s Business Sustainability Management program.

Peter Bolton Investment Director

Peter joined Gresham House in January 2021 and is responsible for the unsubsidised renewables strategy within the New Energy Team.

Peter has twelve years’ energy investment experience. Prior to joining Gresham House, Peter was an Investment Director at Foresight Group, where he worked for seven years. Whilst at Foresight, Peter focused on the European renewable energy sector, leading deals across the full project lifecycle (development capital, greenfield, brownfield and exit processes) and actively managing assets post-investment.

From 2012-2014, Peter was part of the Mergers & Acquisitions Team at Gazprom Marketing & Trading, working on power generation, metering and energy supply transactions. He started his career in PwC’s Deals Strategy Team, advising financial and strategic buyers in the energy sector.

Peter is passionate about the need for further renewable energy deployment and has a track-record working with developers on complex greenfield projects. Peter holds a BA in geography from the University of Oxford.

Philip Barrow Senior Legal Counsel

Phil joined Gresham House as Senior Legal Counsel in June 2021 from Allen & Overy LLP. He has over nine years’ legal experience specialising in funds and asset management. His role at Gresham House focuses on fund formation and structuring, working alongside the sales and distribution team, as well as advising on existing funds and mandates across the business.

Phil is a qualified lawyer and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from University College London.

Rebecca Craddock-Taylor Director, Sustainable Investment

Rebecca joined Gresham House in July 2020 in the newly created role of Director, Sustainable Investment.

Previously, Rebecca worked as an ESG Strategist at Univest where she was responsible for setting a leading sustainability framework across Univest’s investment approach, as well as setting their sustainability objectives for the next five years. Prior to this, she worked at Hymans Robertson as an Investment Consultant and Responsible Investment (RI) adviser where she designed and developed their client RI proposition whilst working closely with a range of clients to enhance their approaches to RI and ESG.

Rebecca was shortlisted for the Professional Pensions 2019 Rising Star Advisor of the Year award for her work in sustainable investment and has raised awareness of sustainable investing by regularly speaking at industry events and writing a number of thought leadership pieces on this topic.

Rebecca holds a BSc in Mathematics with Economics from the University of Exeter, is a qualified actuary and has completed the Investment Management Certificate.

Rebecca French HR Manager

Rebecca joined Gresham House in September 2021 as HR Manager.

Previously Rebecca has worked for organisations across a range of industries including Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Knight Frank in the legal and property sectors respectively.

Rebecca holds a B.Soc.Sc in Sociology from the University of Manchester and MAPD (Masters in Personnel and Development) from the University of Westminster.

 

Rebecca Pimm Fund Controller

Rebecca joined Gresham House in October 2019, and is based in the London office working as a Fund Controller for the Baronsmead VCTs.

Prior to joining the firm, Rebecca worked as a Fund Accountant and Project Manager at Livingbridge.

Rebecca qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Brisbane, Australia, where she worked for KPMG for several years before moving to London in 2017.

Richard Crosbie Dawson Founder of FIM

Richard is a Chartered Surveyor whose experience covers all property issues. His expertise includes: complex documentation and due diligence matters, developing and implementing investment schemes – particularly those based on tax-efficient structures – and managing a wide range of investor contacts established through FIM’s investment business. Richard is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Rob Brittain Consultant

Rob works on a consultant basis for Gresham House, focused on the Mobeus VCT fund management operations. He joined Mobeus in 2001 and became a Partner at the time of the MBO from the Matrix Group in 2012.

He has previously held roles at The Matrix Group, a West End firm of accountants, advising small business clients as Partner, and Deloitte, as a Manager in London and the Middle East.

Rob is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and holds a BA (Hons) in Economic & Social Studies from the University of Manchester.

Rob Carlow Investment Director, Forestry

Rob Carlow has been an Investment Director and a member of the Forestry Investment Committee at Gresham House since November 2015, primarily focusing on asset acquisitions. Rob joined the group from Aitchesse Ltd where he was a Company Director for two years and Head of Acquisitions for three years. Prior to joining Aitchesse Ltd, Rob spent five years at CNBC Europe as a technical analyst covering financial news. Following this, he was managing his own consultancy business specialising in carbon management and commercial forestry for two years. Rob has ten years of investment experience in the commercial forestry sector, investing in the UK and globally. He holds a Master’s degree in environmental economics from Glasgow University and a Bachelor of Art in engineering from Southampton Solent University.

Rosie French, CFA Sustainable Investment Manager

Rosie joined Gresham House as Sustainable Investment Manager in September 2021.

Prior to joining Gresham House, Rosie worked as an ESG Analyst for the European Equities team at Aberdeen Standard Investments where she was responsible for leading the team’s ESG analysis, corporate engagement activities and the integration of ESG into investment processes. Rosie also co-managed an ethical investment fund.

Rosie has 6 years of experience in the industry and is a CFA charter holder. Other professional qualifications include the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership’s Sustainable Finance Certificate and the Investment Management Certificate.

Rosie has been involved in several mentoring activities including the Big Issue Invest program Power Up Scotland where she acted as lead mentor for a social enterprise seeking funding. She was also a mentor as part of SEO London’s HerCapital programme which promotes access for women from diverse backgrounds to the financial services sector.

Roslyn O’Brien Team Personal Assistant,
Equity Funds

Roslyn joined Gresham House in 2019 and is assistant to the Fund Directors. Roslyn joined from Evercore where she worked as a PA within the Private Funds Group. Prior to Evercore, Roslyn was PA to the Investor Relations team at Europa Capital, a European Real Estate Investment Manager.

Rowan Grobler Investment Manager

Rowan joined the Mobeus VCT team in 2018, originating and executing new deals, including IPV and leading the investment into Connect Childcare. He currently sits on the board of IPV and Connect Childcare, where he brings operational experience from >10 years as an FD working in fast-growth businesses and corporate advisory.

His previous roles include Finance Director at Crussh and Nando’s.

He holds an Hons (CTA) degree in Accounting Sciences from the University of Pretoria and is a Chartered Accountant (SA).

Rupert Robinson Managing Director,
Gresham House Asset Management Limited

Rupert Robinson has been the Managing Director of Gresham House Asset Management Ltd since September 2015. Before joining Gresham House, Rupert was CEO and CIO of Schroders (UK) Private Bank for 11 years and prior to that spent 17 years at Rothschild where he was latterly Head of Private Clients at Rothschild Asset Management. Rupert has a proven track record of delivering significant value to shareholders. He has over 31 years of experience in asset management, private banking and wealth management, focusing on product innovation, investment management, business development, banking and wealth structuring. He is a member of the Group Management and Investment Committees.

Rupesh Patel Investment Director

Rupesh joined Gresham House in January 2021, having spent five years at Praesidian Capital where he was focused on investing and managing minority growth and buy-out investments in entrepreneurial businesses across a range of sectors.

Prior to that, he worked at Grant Thornton for eight years where he led M&A and private equity transactions. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte and graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physics from Imperial College.

Ruth Murray Associate Director

Ruth has been an Associate Director at Gresham House since February 2021, delivering investments in sustainable infrastructure, prior to which she supported the team as a consultant from April 2020.

Ruth has 20 years’ of infrastructure experience through her first career as a Projects lawyer during which she worked on infrastructure projects both large and small across a range of sectors, including the £3bn Greater Manchester Waste PFI Project. Over the last 10 years, Ruth’s focus has been supporting funders and developers on renewables, waste and social infrastructure projects from inception, through construction, operation and to secondary market disposal.

Prior to joining Gresham House, Ruth spent 15 years at Ashfords LLP where she was a senior partner who founded and was the head of the Projects Team. Ruth’s other leadership roles included acting as the head of the Energy and Waste Sector Team and she spent 3 years as a member of the firm’s management board. Ruth trained and qualified at Wragge & Co (now Gowling WLR) and holds an LLB (Hons) from Birmingham University.

Sajni Shah Financial Accountant

Sajni joined the Mobeus VCT team in 2018 and maintains the VCTs’ day to day accounting records, assists in the preparation of quarterly management and statutory financial accounts, and administers investor holdings and financial advisor commission records.

Her previous roles include Assistant Management Accountant at Capital Index and Accounts Assistant at GKN Freight Services.

Sajni is a Chartered Accountant (ACCA) and holds a dual honours BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Medicinal Chemistry from Keele University.

Samee Khan Chief Legal Officer

Samee has been the Chief Legal Officer of Gresham House plc since April 2019. He is responsible for Gresham House Group legal matters. He joined Gresham House from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), where he was responsible for building and leading ADIA’s private equity legal and compliance team for five years. Prior to ADIA, Samee worked at SVG Capital plc alongside Tony Dalwood and Graham Bird. He has over 22 years of legal, commercial and financial experience, covering private and public equity, M&A and corporate finance. He also has a first-class honours degree in law and qualified as a solicitor at Slaughter and May.

Samia Lone Head of Legal

Samia joined Gresham House in September 2019 from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. She has over 13 years’ experience in asset management and in private equity fund formations and transactions. Her role at Gresham House focuses on fund formation and structuring, working alongside the sales and distribution team, and working on existing funds and mandates across the business. Samia is a qualified lawyer and holds an LLB (Hons) in English & French Law from the University of East Anglia.

Saveen Kumar Financial Planning & Analysis Manager

Saveen has more than 10 years of experience spread over finance and technology. He works with the Finance team on developing forecasting, assisting in modelling acquisitions and providing commercial and technical accounting expertise across the Group reporting function.

Prior to joining Gresham House, Saveen was with PwC UK, where he gained extensive experience in financial due diligence, financial modelling and financial review. He holds an MBA from the University of Oxford and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA).

Sergey Pichugin Associate

Sergey is an Associate at Gresham House, following the acquisition of TradeRisks in March 2020. He started as a Real Estate Analyst at ReSI Capital Management and was responsible for identifying, implementing and reviewing programmes of work required to develop and improve the company’s existing portfolio of properties.

In October 2019, Sergey was promoted to Associate with further responsibility for portfolio asset management, general portfolio analysis, reporting and complying with investor/REIT requirements, and assisting with the preparation of quarterly and year end reports. Prior to joining ReSI CM, he managed a portfolio of commercial real estate.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Financial Services and a Master’s Degree in International Business and Economics from Westminster Business School.

Sharan Soni Investment Associate

Sharan has been an Investment Associate at Gresham House since April 2021. He spent 4 years at Octopus Investments, where he focused on renewable energy investment transactions (£165m closed) and fundraising (£600m closed). He has 4 years’ experience in finance, with a BSc from King’s College London in Business Management and a MSc from Imperial College London in Economics and Strategy.

He has 4 years’ experience working on a technology start-up, which he co-founded while at university.

He used to play chess for Great Britain.

Simon Amor Investment Forester

Simon is a Chartered Forester with over ten years of private and public sector experience. He has a BSc in Forestry from Bangor University, graduating in 2008. He specialises in woodland creation and general forest management.

Simon Bursell Portfolio Director

Simon brings over 30 years’ experience of supporting, financing and advising SMEs to Gresham House and the Mobeus VCTs. He joined Mobeus as a Portfolio Director in March 2021 and represents the team on the board of several businesses. Simon is a generalist with particular experience in ecommerce, contract laboratories and branded outdoor clothing and accessories.

His previous roles include Equity Partner and Board member at Dains Accountants, Corporate Finance roles at Smith Cooper and Deloitte, and NatWest Development as a Capital Investment Executive.

Simon is a past winner of Insider E. Midlands – Dealmaker of the Year, Advisory Team of the Year and Deal of the Year (Equip/ Rab and Trekmates) and holds a BEng in Engineering Science from the University of Reading.

Sophie Bennion Marketing Associate

Sophie joined Gresham House in September 2021 as a Marketing Associate. Sophie works alongside the rest of the marketing team to promote the Gresham House brand across all marketing activities.

Before joining Gresham House Sophie worked at Rathbones for three and a half years, specialising in digital marketing. Prior to that she led the professional development programme at the Investor Relations Society.

Sophie holds a BA (Hons) in International Business and is currently studying towards the Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing with the CIM.

Sophie Yang Finance Manager

Sophie joined Gresham House in February 2021 as a Finance Manager.

Previously she was a Management Accountant within the fleet industry overseeing the preparation of monthly management packs as well as developing and preparing financial reports to assist with high level business decisions.

She has over 13 years of experience in both accountancy firm and SME commercial industry with comprehensive technical knowledge in management accounting and financial accounting. She holds a Postgraduate Graduate Certificate in Business Administration as well as a BSs (Hons) in Applied Accounting and is a Chartered Accountant with ACCA.

Sophie also has international experience from working in Singapore as a Senior Accountant specialising in accounting and taxation and fluent in mandarin.

Stephen Beck Divisional Finance Director

Stephen joined Gresham House in May 2018 following the acquisition of FIM Services Ltd, where he had served as Chief Financial Officer and Compliance Officer since 2013. Prior to this, Stephen worked at E.ON, where he held a variety of financial and commercial roles from 2000 onwards, ranging from leading large finance teams, developing power station projects, M&A transactions, and working with HM Government delivering low carbon solutions. His experience includes leading on the commercial aspects of the acquisition of the Staffordshire Street Lighting project and the sale of Horizon Nuclear Power to Hitachi.

Stephen began his career at PwC in 1996 and trained as a Chartered Accountant with an emphasis on corporate tax issues. He has 24 years of industry experience and is a law graduate and Barrister, having been called to the Bar in 1996.

Stephen Ramage Timber Marketing Manager

Stephen Ramage has been a Timber Marketing Manager at Gresham House since November 2015. He joined Gresham House from Aitchesse Ltd where he had worked as an Assistant Forester Manager since September 2010, before being promoted to Timber Marketing Manager in 2014. Stephen is a specialist in marketing and harvesting of client timber and has responsibility for the marketing and management of timber sales. Prior to joining Aitchesse Ltd, he worked for three years at Smiths Gore (now Savills) managing woodlands on behalf of private clients as well as undertaking tree safety surveys.

Stephen has over 13 years of experience in UK forestry and has been a Professional Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters for 10 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Forestry from the University of Wales, Bangor, graduating in 2007.

Steve Cordiner Head of Unquoted Investment

Steve joined Gresham House in November 2018 after the Livingbridge acquisition. Steve leads the unquoted investment team on behalf of the Baronsmead VCTs. Steve is a qualified Chartered Accountant and prior to moving into Private Equity he advised Corporate and Private Equity clients on a range of corporate finance and due diligence matters on transactions up to £2bn in value at KPMG.

Steve has a depth of experience in sectors including TMT, Leisure, Consumer and Business Services. Notable investments include Carousel Logistics, Moteefe,  Boilerjuice, Happy Days Nurseries and Symphony Ventures.

Stevie Ingamells Associate Director

Stevie joined Gresham House in January 2018 and works on both public and private transactions across the full range of funds, spending the majority of time working on the British Strategic Investment Fund in the Sustainable Infrastructure team.

Prior to Gresham House, Stevie worked for Lloyds Banking Group in their Leveraged Finance Team, following the completion of the graduate scheme where she gained exposure to a wide range of Capital Market products. Stevie holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from Durham University and has passed CFA Level II.

Suzy Babbage Asset Manager

Based in our Oxford office, Suzy works in the asset management team for our renewables portfolio. Suzy has been involved in the construction, financing and operational management of over 100 MW of onshore wind and solar assets on behalf of investors.

Previously, Suzy worked as a Senior Investment Analyst for Sun Life Financial of Canada and Lincoln Financial Group. Suzy is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has a first class BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Bath.

Tania Hayes Divisional Finance Director

Tania joined Gresham House in November 2018 having been at Livingbridge for 13 years. She has worked on the Baronsmead VCTs since she joined, progressing from administration assistant to Finance Manager in 2011 and qualifying as a Chartered Management Accountant in 2012 while at Livingbridge.

Tania previously worked at a Chartered Accountancy practice in New Zealand for eight years where she began her accounting training. She holds a BBS in Accounting from the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand.

Tim Jones VCT Services Director

Tim has managed the financial and management reporting for the four Mobeus VCTs for over a decade.

Prior to joining Mobeus, he was an Assistant Manager at Nyman Libson Paul.

Tim is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and holds an MSc in Economics from the University of Bristol and a BA (Hons) in Economics and Management from the University of Lincoln.

Tom Astor Investment Associate

Prior to joining Gresham House, Tom worked for Polar Capital for 5 years on both the investment and operational side, during which time he completed the IMC. Following a sustainability direction, he designed and built a rural indoor farm, selling the produce to local restaurants and farmers markets. He graduated in 2010 from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc (Hons) in Scientific Geography.

Tom Black Asset Manager, Forestry

Tom joined Gresham House plc in June 2021.

He works within the asset management team, covering all aspects of operational forestry for several individual and portfolio clients. He has worked in the UK forestry sector since 2013 and, prior to joining Gresham House, was leading a three-person forest management team covering south west Scotland.

Tom has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town and later went on to gain an MSc in Forest Management from Newton Rigg

Tom started working at Gresham House in 2018, having previously been at Livingbridge since 2015. Prior to that he was at KPMG for 6 years, working across a number of departments with a focus on private equity transactions. He has a first class BSc (Hons) in Biology from the University of Bristol and is a Chartered Accountant.

Tony Dalwood Chief Executive Officer, Gresham House plc & Investment Committee Chairman, Gresham House plc
Investment Committee Chairman, Strategic Equity Capital plc

Tony has been Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gresham House plc since December 2014. He chairs the Investment Committees of Gresham House plc and Strategic Equity Capital plc. He led the management buy-in and established a new management team that transformed the firm from an investment trust into the listed specialist asset manager it is today with over £4bn AUM.

Tony has a long track record of investing and advising numerous public and private equity businesses. From 2002 to 2011, he established and grew SVG Investment Managers before being asked to lead SVG Advisors (formerly Schroder Ventures, London) as CEO. He started his career at Phillips & Drew Fund Management (later UBS Global Asset Management), one of the UK’s most prominent value investment firms with £60bn in assets under management at its peak and where he was a member of the Investment Committee. He was also previously Chair of the LPFA Investment Panel and Non-executive Board member.

Tony has over 25 years of investment experience and holds an MA in Management Studies from the University of Cambridge (where he was also a junior rugby international and Blue).

Trevor Blackburn Investment Director, Forestry

Fund Manager; responsible for management of in-forest operations and fund reporting. Post qualification, he worked as a forest manager on the full spectrum of forest activities, with a particular emphasis on adding value through bare land planting. In 2004, he moved to the Forestry Commission where he held various responsibilities including regulatory compliance role over the industry’s private sector. Latterly he was project manager of an IT project, and represented the Forestry Commission on the SEARS (Scotland’s Environmental & Rural Services) programme of organisational change. In 2012 he joined Gresham House Forestry and is one of the teams qualified chartered foresters.

Trevor Hope CIO, VCTs

Trevor joined the Mobeus VCT team in 2016 to develop and lead their growth capital investment strategy. For over 20 years, he has invested in fast-growing businesses at the series A stage and beyond. He leads the fundraising for Gresham House’s VCT funds alongside Clive Austin.

He joined Mobeus from Barclays, and previously held roles at RBS, 3i and Beringea. Previous investments and Board positions include Paragon Software, Mondus.com, Cambridge Industries, Southnews plc, Achilles Group, MyOptique, Fjordnet, ILG Digital, Celebrus Technologies, Big Data Partnership, and Preservica.

Trevor holds an MBA from Exeter University, is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Trish Standaloft Company Secretary, Mobeus VCTs

Trish joined the Mobeus VCT team in January 2020 and is responsible for governance and compliance affairs for listed clients.

Trish previously held roles at M&G Investments and Octopus Investments on several VCTs.

She is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Victoria Larkin Executive Administration Manager

Victoria is a Executive Administration Manager responsible for several FIM and Gresham House Funds. She is the lead on the development of the Group database and other IT projects. She joined FIM in November 2004.

Victoria Lee Finance Assistant

Victoria joined in June 2020 and supports the Group Finance Controller, Gary Cresswell, in our Fareham office.

She has over 13 years worth of experience working in finance and has covered a wide range of roles within the field, including being part of a global cost control team and streamlining financial procedures worldwide.

Victoria is currently studying towards the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting.

Vitoria Mann Risk & Compliance Manager

Vitoria joined Gresham House in February 2020 as Risk and Compliance Manager. She has over 15 years’ experience in the legal, compliance and financial services industry. Prior to Gresham House, Vitoria held senior risk and compliance CF10 and CF10A positions. She has a keen interest in sustainable and impact investing and the development of environmental, social and governance metrics within the UK fund management industry.

Wayne Cranstone Investment Director

Wayne has 24 years of technical, commercial, stakeholder and general management experience in the energy sector. Before joining FIM Services Ltd, where he served as COO prior to their acquisition, Wayne was Onshore Wind Development and Construction Director for RWE Innogy.

Wayne is a Chartered Engineer and has a PhD in Engineering from the University of Sheffield. He has overseen the construction of 17 wind farms (~400MW) and the sale of 12 wind farms (~200MW) over the past 12 years. He has also represented the industry on aviation matters as a director and vice chair of the Aviation Investment Fund Company Ltd. Wayne is a registered adviser with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Zara Alexandra Client Services Assistant

Zara joined Gresham House as Client Services Assistant in January 2021. She is based in the Oxford office, where she will be looking after client requests and queries across the Group.

Prior to joining Gresham House, Zara worked as Events Co-Ordinator at Thyme; a prestigious Cotswold-based hotel, restaurant and cookery school. Her responsibilities included managing both private and corporate events, weddings and press launches for major blue chip companies. She also assisted with marketing activities, promoting Thyme via various traditional, social media and PR activities.

Previously, she worked in both Guest Relations and Events at the internationally famous Michelin-starred restaurant, hotel and cookery school, Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons founded by Raymond Blanc. She gained experience in providing exceptional customer service, hosting corporate (prestigious global brands), celebrity and private events in the luxury hospitality sector.
