Without unified and global action, investors will continue to focus their efforts on countries and sectors where there is a regulatory or financial incentive to drive net-zero investment.

This isn’t what the planet needs.

We need a clear framework to tackle climate change, anchored around investment requirements from the public and private sectors.

The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) happening in October and the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in November are the perfect place for us to start this process.

The COP26 summit aims to “bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change”.

At Gresham House, we are committed to delivering effective, alternative investment solutions to ensure clients achieve their financial objectives whilst making a meaningful contribution to advancing the world’s transition to a more sustainable way of life.

This includes providing opportunities to investors that can meaningfully contribute to a net zero – or real zero – world.

Sustainable forestry is already a proven alternative asset class, but its ability to lock up carbon in perpetuity has meant it has grown in importance and prominence as global economies strive to decarbonise and hit net-zero targets.

This paper outlines the favourable investment case and our preferred geographies for forestry investment opportunities in the near and long term.
