Claire joins Gresham House with over 14 years of experience in the affordable homeownership space, primarily in major housing associations, and with specialist expertise in shared ownership developments. She was previously head of homeownership at Peabody, where she managed large, shared ownership and leasehold portfolios, with a focus on new builds. She has also worked across a range of property management roles for other housing associations and private investors, including Optivo, One Housing and Heylo.
Matthew brings 11 years of property experience to Gresham House, where he will play a key role in growing the group’s portfolio in both the shared ownership and build-to-rent sectors. Over his career, Painter has overseen £500mn of residential real estate development projects in the UK and Europe. He was most recently senior development manager at CA Ventures, having previously held development manager roles at Guild Living and Unite Students.
These two appointments come as Gresham House continues to develop its offering to investors in the housing space. With around £800mn in UK residential housing assets under management, Gresham House offers strategies across the shared ownership, build-to-rent and retirement living sectors. The asset manager is the UK’s largest provider of private independent retirement rental homes and, as the owner of two for-profit Registered Providers, is also one of three institutional investors selected by the UK Government as a strategic partner for the delivery of new affordable homes.
“The investment we are making in our housing team at this time reflects the strength of demand we are seeing from investors and the long-term opportunity set in UK housing. Claire and Matthew both bring a wealth of expertise to their new roles at Gresham House and will drive continued growth across our shared ownership and build-to-rent portfolios at a time when both sectors are crucial to addressing the UK’s housing crisis.”
“Gresham House has an outstanding track record in the shared ownership space, and I am excited to contribute to strengthening the business’s offering in this area further over the coming years. Shared ownership has an important role to play in addressing challenges around affordability in the UK’s housing market and I look forward to working with the rest of the Gresham House team to deliver a positive impact for investors and communities.”
“I am delighted to be joining Gresham House at this vital time for the housing sector. I share the team’s excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead for shared ownership and build-to-rent and look forward to working with them to deliver quality accommodation for buyers and renters up and down the country.”
