Gresham House has a rich heritage as one of the oldest companies in the UK still operating today, having first been incorporated in 1857.

On 20 December 2023, Gresham House plc delisted from trading on the London Stock Exchange following its acquisition by Searchlight Capital Partners L.P. (Searchlight).

In this new chapter under private ownership, there is no change to business activity day-to-day. As an active manager specialising in alternative investments with a sustainable positive impact we remain laser focused on the delivery of financial performance and service excellence for our clients.

The business has grown exponentially, has assets under management of £8.3bn (€9.7bn) as at 30 June 2023, a growing international footprint, and an ambition for continued growth from this strong and scalable platform.

Gresham House Estates Ltd acquires Broad Street Estates Limited, including a freehold building in Old Broad Street - opposite Gresham House.

GHEC incorporates
Gresham House Estates Limited is incorporated as company number 871 on 14 May, under George Burnand. Corney and Barrow wine merchants are one of the Company’s first tenants (and remain so for over 100 years).

Gresham College moves
Gresham College moves to new premises on Gresham Street. It later moves to Barnard’s Inn Hall in 1991 and is funded from Sir Thomas Gresham’s estate to this day.

Gresham College founded
Gresham College is founded to provide free lectures within the City of London. Its original lecturers, including Sir Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke, live at the mansion in Bishopsgate.

Formation of Foundation
Sir Thomas Gresham leaves proceeds in his will for the foundation of a college in his name. It is to be housed at his former mansion and gardens between Old Broad Street and Bishopsgate.

Sir Thomas Gresham, former Lord Mayor of London and financial agent to the monarchy from King Henry VIII to Queen Elizabeth I, establishes the Royal Exchange at his mansion between Old Broad Street and Bishopsgate.

The Gresham family crest is a golden grasshopper sitting atop a green mound. According to legend, the founder of the family, Roger de Gresham, was abandoned as a newborn among long grass in Norfolk, but was rescued by a woman whose attention was drawn by a grasshopper.

I am a holder of Gresham House shares – when will I receive payment?

For holders of Gresham House plc share certificates:
If you hold any Gresham House plc share (“Share”) certificates, you will receive a cheque in January 2024 for the cash settlement proceeds arising from the acquisition of Gresham House plc by Searchlight Capital Partners (“Bidco”).

After completion, any Shares you own, either via a broker or in certificated form, will be acquired by Bidco at the offer price of £11.05p per Share.

For Shares held via a broker, they will receive the cash settlement proceeds and you will need to contact them to arrange how they will transfer those proceeds to you. If you have any questions, please contact your broker.

For Shares held in certificated form in your own name, cheques will be sent in the post to the address held for you by the Registrar in January 2024.

When did the acquisition of Gresham House complete?

The acquisition of Gresham House by Searchlight completed on 19 December 2023, with the company delisting from the London Stock Exchange on 20 December 2023 to become privately owned.

 

Can I still invest in Gresham House?

The company has delisted from the London Stock Exchange and has become a privately owned company. As such, it is no longer possible to acquire shares in Gresham House.
